Studies show that anxiety is related to a persons diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Studies also
show that common methods of alleviating anxiety such as educational, psychotherapeutical and
social support groups only generate nominal results. The latest proposed method of treatment has
been a habitual exercise and the results have been promising though limited in scope. As these
findings were positive, the researchers decided to expand the breadth of research to include
individuals without a cancer diagnosis. The results of the test shows that light to moderate
intensity exercise decreases anxiety for breast cancer survivors and those without a cancer
diagnosis. This site was chosen because the notion of finding new methods to decrease anxiety
for suffers seems a noble effort and a positive contribution to society. Also a very close friend
and mentor of mine had breast and uterine cancer.
If exercise decreases anxiety among cancer survivors, could exercise also help alleviate other
social maladies (emotional disability or emotional disturbance) that affect the general populace?
Would exercise used in conjunction with psychotherapy be a better approach? Or would a more
holistic approach be more efficacious?

Hi Kevin,
I agreed that self-control helps reduce anxieties due to personal experiences. Other ways to
maintain self-control strength would be to exercise regularly. Such exercises were used in
therapy and other self-improvement attempts where researchers showed that simple exercises
tripled the succession rate by building self-control exercises.
Hi Diem,
Most people sees stress as a bad thing and not as something necessary for life. Though weve
overloaded ourselves more than we should from work, school and family we dont always find
the time or means to release the stress. I found the article youve chosen interesting because it
provides many relaxation techniques we can follow. According to the article I may respond best
to relaxation techniques that are stimulating and that energize my nervous system, such as
rhythmic exercise.
