The Life of a Circus Animal
Animals involved in circus activates are confined tortured creatures that
have unfair lives. According to the LPDA ad, circus animals have restricted and forced
lives. LPDA is an organization that helps rescue and discontinue animal cruelty. This
group is originated in Portugal. The advertising agency that created this ad is called
Partners Lisboa, also located in Portugal. According to its website, this group has a
variety of members that create programs for various causes. All of the programs involve
helping animals in any sort. This group has various ads, which all include wildlife
animals such as a lion, monkey, seal, and an elephant. The animals all have face paint
similar to a clowns face. This ad is very effective towards animal lovers. It shows the true
side of being an animal stuck in the life of a circus production. This ad is striving to
involve more individuals into being informed about the painful and suffering lives of
circus animals and attempting to persuade them to help change these unfortunate animals
lives
LDPA creates this ad with such detail that the minimal wording included is
unnecessary. Reasoning for the small amount writing, is because the animal in the picture
expresses so much fear and abuse. The picture includes one of the of circus animals that
is placed behind bars, as if they are in jail. This is portrayed as an individual or in this
case, an animal, which is confined and restricted from various other aspects of life. The
Beltran 2
animals in each and every one of the ads have extreme emotion. Their eyes are watery,
their faces are distressed, they have frowned mouths, worry in their eyes, and the fear of
pain. The details in their expressions are extreme. Visualizing and analyzing the ad can
open the eyes of many and can differentiate the option of attending circus acts or not.
This was the goal of the initiator of the ad. The creator included these animals because
they are all involved in circus acts. There is an interesting type of irony based on the ad
that contains the lion. The most powerful, strongest, and protective animal of all, which is
the lion, is placed in a cage, has paint on its face designed as a clown, and has fear in his
eyes. When I analyzed this ad, I noticed that even the strongest is feeling weakness in
being a part of such a show. The imagery in this ad is very powerful.
When visualizing this ad, many can tell what the creator is trying to express. The
animals alone express what the ad is portraying. Although the picture is very descriptive,
the author includes a small area of writing that says, roll up, roll up, ladies and
gentlemen, for the crack of the whip towards the animals stinging woundscome and
see the famed number of cages and tightly binding chains allowing no escape from
endless training sessions The author includes this section of writing in order to
emphasis the exact meaning of the ad and for its audience to have a clear thought of the
point. The text included is structured to sound exciting, thrilling, and perceiving. It
resembles a circus announcer, with a strong evolving voice that everyone can hear,
making the pain of the words sound acceptable. In reality the ad is trying to inform its
audience about the pain that is overlooked during these acts.
The target audience intended for this ad is mainly animal advocates. Its aimed
towards people who enjoy involving themselves in animal rescue and providing better
Beltran 3
lifestyles for these creatures. The purpose of this ad is to also inform others about the
negative actions taken during these shows that people bypass. This ad informs non-
animal advocates therefore they wont attend these shows and support the circus animal
acts.
LPDA uses the pathos strategy in order to get its audiences attention. It contains
the expressed feeing of sadness and pity for these animals. By using this technique, the
audience is obligated in following the footsteps of the originator of the ad. It helps create
a new idea in which people can help save and protect animals of all sorts. The advertising
strategies are the need for affiliation, nurture, and aggress. By using these, the audience
has emotion when analyzing this ad. It gives them reasons to want to help and change the
life of circus animals. The need for nurture makes the audiences want to physically attend
a circus show and save the animals themselves. The need for affiliation helps attract the
audience by also, wanting to be involved in saving these animals from any further harm.
Therefore, the need for aggress helps by bringing anger into the audiences mind and
persuading them to do something about it. These strategies help by attracting the
audiences need for helping, changing, and analyzing the true circus life of animals.
LPDAs goal is to inform society about the lives of circus animals, and to change their
decisions about attending these shows in the future.
On the bottom left corner of the ad, Animal Circuses, Dont Be Part of the
Show, is located. This is added to the picture to help structure the purpose of what the ad
is trying to state. The assumptions being made by looking at this ad, is that the animals
are being tortured, abused, neglected, and pressured to perform such acts when they are
miserable and kept from their expected lives. If they arent performing their act correctly,
Beltran 4
they are punished. The ad is very simple yet has so much to express. Its an animal with a
sad face and face paint. People may overlook this ad but others may deeply analyze the
importance of what the cause is.
The purpose of this ad is to influence the world on making changes on the
decisions they choose not only for circus shows, but also for animals in general. It helps
society analyze the lives of others in this case, animal. This ad can also influence the
public on choosing to help animals in need rather then leaving them to suffer. This
organizations purpose is to further the animal rescue advocates all over the world. I
emphasis on the aspect of the world because this group isnt originated in the U.S, like
most animal sponsor groups, its located in Portugal.
