Millionaire Project

Group Members - Emilie Baxter, Mikayla DeBarros, Cate Guempel, Bronte Hoefer, Kenneth
Uyesugi

Unmet Needs - This meets the unmet need of awareness and solution to people who live with
learning disabilities and are not given the vital help and research that they need to lead normal
lives.

Project Idea - Creating an injection that stimulates targeted genes, TLX and DLG3, to assist and
boost the learning and memory capabilities of the mentally disabled.

Materials:
syringes used to inject product into patients ($15-$40)
x-rays to monitor the effects of the treatment ($20,000 plus a monthly cost of $200-$300)

Facilities - A warehouse to produce units: cost - $13,650,000
Insurance Coverage: roughly $15,000 a year

Units - Between 1976 and 2011, the amount of children ages 3 to 21 diagnosed with learning
disabilities in the U.S. went from 3 million to 6 million. We would start by making a million
units then keep increasing the amount progressively. See more detail in our timeline.

Cost of Development - The cost of developing our injection would be around $11 billion. Gene
therapy can be expensive.

Cost of Materials - We arent positive what chemicals or genes we should inject in the body to
stimulate TLX and DLG3. One future prospect is HMGA2, which is a gene that encodes a
protein that can be a transcriptional regulating factor. The average cost of materials for gene
therapy is about $4,850,190.

Total Cost of Production - The total cost of producing this injection would be about 58 billion
dollars.

Market - If treatment proves viable, market could extend to any person that needs it, as in the
subject shows symptoms of learning disability and is a viable candidate for gene therapy. For
example, a student with a learning disability could receive treatment to aid in school and
education.
