Dear Grade Two Parents,
I hope that you have all had a great week. We have all been very busy in second grade
finishing our program of inquiry into how our choices of role models reflect the beliefs
and values of individuals and society. Here are some highlights of the week in second
grade:
All children participated in the MAP testing for reading, language and math. If
your child didnt complete any of these tests there is a time allotted next week
for make-up assessment.
All children began swimming lessons in PE
Edmodo is now up and running for all classes. Please log on here to see the
weekly homework.
We have all had fun learning about subtraction strategies!

In second grade next week:
LANGUAGE: Spinning will resume for guided reading groups. Our focus for next week
will be on characteristics of non-fiction text. For information on this see:

Update

SCIENCE:
Next week we are starting our next unit. We are very excited to reveal this topic to the
students on Sunday. We will play some games and do some predicting about this new
unit. A detailed outline of this unit will be posted on Weebly on Sunday afternoon.
Please make sure you read you take the time to read this.
REMINDERS:
Please remind your children that they need to bring their homework folder every
day. The reason for this is that during spinning classes your child needs to take
the correct book! Inside their homework folder they should have:
Guided reading book
Reading notebook
Spelling notebook
Homework book
Children must not lose their guided reading books. If we lose one book then the
set is not complete and it is complicated to get more (they have to be ordered
and shipped from the USA). Please be extra careful with these books at home
