for the unknown number to represent the
problem, distinguishing multiplicative
comparison from additive comparison.

4.MD.A.2
Use the four operations to solve word
problems involving distances, intervals of

money, including problems involving simple
fractions or decimals, and problems that
require expressing measurements given in a
larger unit in terms of a smaller unit.
Represent measurement quantities using
diagrams such as number line diagrams that
feature a measurement scale

can find. Then tell them to glue their sections to the construction paper.
Have the students come up with math problems that involves the math pieces found.
Ask the students to explain the pieces that they found to the class without explaining the math
problem found.

Lesson Closure/Assessment:
Put students into pairs.
Have the students trade their papers and have them highlight the math pieces in their partners
paper, and then try to solve the problems given.
Within the next few days, read Math Curse again and solve the math problem presented.
Put Math Curse in your classrooms bookshelf, and encourage students to reread the book when
they can and try to solve the problems again.
