Fedoruk Grigoriy Vladimirovich (Russia)
Arthroscopic reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint
using an augmented hamstring transplant.
This work is devoted to the analysis of surgical treatment for anterior knee
instability. A novel way of surgical treatment of anterior cruciate ligament tears has
been developed (Russian Federation Patent of innovation #2289361 as of year 2006).
Safety and the rational behind using locally manufactured augmentation
implants for augmenting hamstring transplants for the surgical treatment of anterior
knee instability have been established.
A systematic multifactorial analysis has been employed as well as
mathematical models of lower extremity functional performance in long-term (12
months) follow-up and the efficacy of the proposed method of reconstruction has been
demonstrated.
The analysis of outcomes shows that of patients in the study group treated with
augmented hamstring ACL transplants had statistically better recovery of knee
function scores than patients in the control group, according to the Lysholm scale.
