Come On, Dance!


What is dancing?
Dancing is a form of exercise that is good for the heart, the mind, and the
spirit. Dancing makes a person healthy. The way the body responds to the
beat of the music, the holding of hands with the partner is a collaboration
of art.
History of Dancing
Filipinos are known as good dancers. Even kids at an early age
demonstrate a love for dancing.
Nowadays, ballroom is the fad for dancing. Ballroom is added as attraction
at the 2000 Olympics held in Sydney, Australia. The era of 1930 made
ballroom dancing very popular with the participation of big dance
orchestras influenced by Latin American rhythms. Men and women then
showed expertise in this dance craze. Other dance steps emerged and
became popular too, like cha cha, boogie, paso doble,rumba, and samba.
Benefits of Dancing
1. Through dancing our bodies can be trained to be flexible enough to
perform various dance steps.
2. Dancing makes people healthy.
3. Dancing serve as a good mutual relationship between oneself and the
people around you.
4. Dancing is also considered as physical therapy. Some doctors believe
that dancing can heal a person physically, mentally, emotionally, and
spiritually.

Four Basic elements of Dancing
1. Space- The dance movements you make using your arms and legs need
distance and space. There are various dance steps that are expressed in
rhythm to the music and dancers consider space as important as it follows
them more freedom to be creative.
2. Timing-This is the heart of the dance. There must be a tempo or beat.
Change of steps from the start of the dance must clearly shown by the
movements of the body and feet.
3. Gravity- As soon as a dancer starts to move, jump, turn around, or to
bow his or her head, contact is initiated with the partner and the audience.
There is gravity in all aspects of the movement.
4. Dynamics-Just in songs or music, the softness or the loudness make
the dynamics of the dance. Even the size and shape of dancers are
considered dynamics. There is energy in every act, every interpretation.
Even the emotion that the dancer expresses is a part of the dynamics.
