Gendercide
The basic definition of gendercide is the deliberate massacre of a certain gender. This
practice is generally used in countries such as India and China, where the desire for males
outweigh females; thus the mass-killing of female babies. The continuation of this sex-selective
killing leads to an imbalance of genders, primarily in India, meaning that there are more males
than female in the given society. With this, the skewed ratio contributes to human trafficking,
where girls are being taken captive and are being sold where there is a deprivation of women.
The buyers of the kidnapped then force the women to become their wife and are expected to give
birth, preferably to males. The vicious cycle of killing female infants, abducting women,
trafficking them, then forcing them to give birth repeats itself in Indian culture. In Chinese
society, the One Child Policy strictly enforces couples to only give birth to one child, after
obtaining a birth permit. The policy causes families to abort their female infants, infanticide, so
that they can have another chance for a male heir.
I chose this topic because I watched a documentary on Netflix called, Its a Girl. The
documentary intrigued me on a topic that I had no idea was happening on the other side of the
world. It opened up my eyes to the terrible things happening to females in countries where a
male heir is praised and glorified. Obviously, my stance is to end Gendercide; however, as it will

take a long time for the people to understand the effects of the disproportionate gender ratio, my
stance will be to make people aware of the practices being done in those two countries.
