Dear Review Committee,

My name is Emily Brewer. I am seventeen years old and a senior at Pine Lake Preparatory. I
have been attending Pine Lake for five years, since 2010. Prior to Pine Lake I attended
Mooresville City Schools. I have lived in Mooresville my whole life with my parents and my
sister, Abby, who is a Freshman at Mooresville High School.

I am very involved in my church, Central United Methodist Church here in Mooresville. I have
been on many mission trips and been involved in many service events in the community. I also
have played soccer for eleven years, including a recreational team and also my schools team. I
have a passion for both soccer and volunteering, these passions have shaped me as a person in
many ways.

I have chosen to do my Pride Project on Special Education. I have always had an interest in
Special Education and teaching. I have a personal experience with Special Education, I started
having learning difficulties when I was in the second grade, and was diagnosed with a learning
disability in the sixth grade. I have been an A/B honor roll student since Freshman year. I have
learned to overcome my learning disabilities in school and I would love to be able to help kids
overcome the same struggles I have gone through. Last year, while writing the Pride paper I
realized that I might want to become an EC teacher. Currently, I am applying to colleges and
putting my major as Special Education. The Pride paper and project have made me realize what I
might want to do in the workforce.

For my Pride product I am going to make a hands on lesson plan for the kids and graph how the
programs are helping their growth as students during the school year, starting now to February.
Making the lesson plan and presenting it to the kids will take me about a week. While graphing
the kids growth will take me until February. In addition to the lesson plan and growth chart I will
present a presentation with pictures, charts, and also make a notebook of some of the programs
and games I've watched the kids do. I currently have five mentor hours completed. My goal is to
have all my hours completed by next Friday, October 24. I have really enjoyed doing my mentor
hours. I love helping and watching my mentor and the kids. I am estimating that all the work
within the Pride project will take me around twenty five hours. My goal is to have my project
completed about a week or two before the due date, that way I can practice and focus on the
presenting aspect. My overall goals going into the Pride project is to present my topic well to the
judges and receive a passing grade.

Sincerely,
Emily Brewer
