Essential Question(s): How can I work with group members to perfect a theme for the yearbook? What colors, styles, fonts, etc. would best communicate our chosen theme? How can I use technology (Microsoft Publisher) to create a mock yearbook page? Connections (prior learning/prior knowledge):
Students are familiar with yearbook themes from the previous assignment Other considerations (modifications, accommodations, acceleration, etc.):
Students who are having trouble with using technology can be paired up with another student. More advanced students can choose take on more responsibility such as tutoring others, being responsible for writing the text for the brochure, photography, etc.
Resources/Materials Teacher:
Yearbooks from various schools, both print and online Microsoft Publisher GIMP photo editing program Students: Flash drive, pen, paper, laptop (provided by teacher) Assessment (How will you monitor progress and know students have successfully met outcomes?)
Daily: Daily observations of students while they are doing their tasks in class.

Time allotted Lesson activities for instructor and students FRIDAY 10/31 Learning TargetTSW learn how to do more advanced Publisher functions to create a dynamic cover page. TSW know this when he/she uses original art or photography in his/her opening page. Do NowTake out laptop, sign in and start working on your project. I. Show Prep yearbook and the use of student artwork. Show ATC yearbook and use of student photography. II. Demonstrate how to set image as background and adjust transparency III. Demo how to vary text size IV. Demo how to use lines/shapes to add interest V. Ideas for how to get student artwork/photos: --Take photos that demonstrate the theme --Ask art students (I can post roster) --Call for art to art classes (me) Requirement---You must use at least one of your own photographs and one piece of original student artwork in your project. You cannot repeat photos or art pieceseach must be totally unique. Work on Cover HW: Bring camera to school this week MONDAY 11/3 Learning Target TSW learn how to create an eye-catching spread by varying text size. He/she will know this when his/her spread incorporates vary text sizes. 1. Work on Club/Sport/Class Page spread 2. How to cut out an image cleanly that you got from the internet. -Open image in Gimp -Add duplicate layer -Unclick the eye from one layer -on the OTHER layer Add Alpha Channel (keeps background clear so you can see whats behind it) -Use rectangle/square/free draw tool to draw shape if desired -Hit Control I (invert) -Erase all thats outsidethe grey checkered part will print whatever is in the background - TUESDAY 11/4 Learning TargetTSW learn how to create an effective spread by using lines and shapes. TSW know this when he/she has used lines/shapes on each of his spreads. I. Work on Page of Choice
WEDNESDAY 11/5 Learning TargetTSW learn how to participate effectively in a critique. TSW know this when he/she has made several strong comments in the critique.
Presentations Students will present each of his/her pages to class, then we will vote on the best.
