Library Highlights

Students played an I-Spy game in the library by looking for stickers


around the library.
Students learned about Cubby Bear Picks so that they could help
nominate books to be displayed on the Joy Elementary Library page.
Numerous new books are displayed throughout the library.

What we did in the library this month.


Grade Level

Focus/Activity

Pre-School

Pre-school students started checking out books and taking them to their classroom.
They were taught how to carry their books in the hallway.

1st -3rdGrade

A variety of books were read to students this month including Martha doesnt say sorry!
By Samantha Berger, Lucy and the Bully Goat by Claire Alexander, and Llama Lama
and the bully goat by Anna Dewdney. Students discussed book character, the setting of
the book, the plot and the plot of books. Other stories include a Dr. Seuss book called
The shape of me and other stuff, Me and Meow by Adam Guden , Family Huddle by
Peyton Manning and Dizzy Izzy by david Shannon. Multi-cultural puppets will be used to
discuss life in other countries and various cultural customs.

4the- 6 th Grade

Students were taught how to use Culture Grams which is a school district paid data
base that teaches kids about life in other countries. They were also taught how to use
Pebble Go which is a paid website for accessing information about science, social
studies and language arts. Students learned about looking at the covers of books to
help them determine if this book might be of interest to them. Students will be taught
how to use MackinVia, and Discovery Education Streaming .

Titles or Series to note: Numerous new books were displayed.
Library Management Tasks
Barcoding/Processing/Ordering/Inventory, creating shelf markers,
creating bulletin boards, hallway duty, developing lesson plans,
coordinating with the school and other users of the library. Time was
spent in trainings to learn more skills.
