Statement: I have completed this assignment on my own without any

partner. That doesnt include the social media part.

1) Laptop Protective Case

Detection:
A laptop is very important tool that we use in our daily life. One of the main problems we face is
protecting it from physical accidental damage. Since there is a lot a various laptop models and sizes they
dont always offer a protect case for all of them. When we pick a size that looks similar to the laptop and
it doesnt fit, we need to go back to the store exchange it for the proper size case if its available. This
error usually mainly caused by human error. The error happens during the order fulfilment process. This
error will make me evaluate me doing business with a company that doesnt get it right the first time
especially if it only takes a few seconds to verify if the case is the right size or not.
Prevention:
Customer satisfaction is one the main foundation for a good business model; a good company will take
the time to evaluate every order to make sure that customer satisfaction is achieved. Time should be
provided to review each order and make sure the contents are right as they are ordered; it will save the
customer time as well as the company time trying to fix the error. These types of human error can be
avoided by simply checking each item properly before shipping it to the customer.

2) Laptop Battery not Charging.

Detection:
One of the smartest tools on our daily life is the laptop. I personally had a lot issue with the battery
specially that I forget to unplug the laptop after it is charged to 100 percent. This leads to the battery
cells to self-destroy over time and the battery capacity starts to drop but due to the fact I dont unplug it
too often or until its completely drained out; I dont notice the difference in battery life.
Sometimes we dont notice the battery was fully charged on our laptop, or we just ignore the fact that
its being over charged that knowing that we are damaging the battery along the way. This is part of the
human error we do on daily basis. We need to avoid that by unplugging the laptop until its nearly
drained out then re-plug it again to charge the battery.
Prevention:
As I mentioned earlier a laptop is one of the smartest tools we use in our daily life. Laptop manufactures
should introduce or develop a software so that the charger stops delivering power to the already
charged battery until it falls below a certain percentage. This will allow the battery to live longer and
stops the issue of having to replace the battery multiple times. This will not only provide a great solution
to laptop owners such as me but it will also provide a huge customer satisfaction.

3) Turn Off The Lights!

Detection:

In our daily life we walk from room to room turn on light and walking out without closing it because we
simply forget or our minds is elsewhere. This creates loss of electricity as well as making this planet
suffer even more unintentionally. At night time when we leave our rooms I forget to close the light and
when I get back I notice that I have left it on for more than 10-15 minutes and no one got a use out that
electricity. We have to detect the problem first before thinking of any possible solution. We are all
human and we tend to forget simple things but those little things add up at the end.
Prevention:
A technology improves there are a lot of way to deal with this problem. One way is using motion switch
which is relatively cheap and easy to install. The switch turns the light as long as you are in the room and
once the motion sensor detects no motion in the room it turns the light off after a few seconds. The only
problem with this product is when you are going to sleep. At that point the sensor has a button right
under it t either turn the light on/off or even turn on the sensor. Therefore at the end of the night
before going to bed you will have to switch the sensor and light to off mode. This will save a lot energy
and stop wasting electricity.

4) Pile Of Garbage

Detection:
Garbage disposal in third world countries is a huge problem. As I am not proud to talk about this
problem and its existence in my home country Egypt but it needs to be addressed and not avoided. If
you drive by any off road area you will see a huge pile of garbage.I have seen a lot people just walk by
the garbage bin and just throw it next to it because it so full and the waste management service doesnt
do enough pickups to get rid of the garbage in the bin before being filled again. Since Egypt is highly
populated and they only cover 5 percent of the total area with almost 95 million people it shows that
waste management can be a problem. This doesnt only look back to countries public image but it is
also a source if a lot diseases as well as a harbor for insects. This doesnt only affect the community
around it but also affects the country as a whole as those diseases can spread.
Prevention:
The waste management program needs to be reformed even following any modern countrys
foot steps to solve that problem. Waste need to separate from recycled material, use landfills for
organic material and recycle plastics, metals, and electronics, and this will provide a cleaner safer
environment to live in it.

5) Exhaust Emissions

Detection:

Traffic jam and car exhaust emission is huge health problem especially third world countries as
relegations for car exhaust systems are slim to none. Traffic jams in third world countries are more often
that you think, with the car running carbureted hydrogen smoke files the air causing a lot of dangerous
health issues. This is not only due to failing to regulate it but also failing to maintain in proper condition.
This problem can be detected so easily, you can spot the white smoke from far away as well as smelling
if you are close enough to the source . This issue can be detected right to the source with a few minutes.
Another part of the problem is the increasing price of car maintenance service.
Prevention:
This issue is not a little hard to handle and no one can fix it overnight. It can be changed by one person
but it has to be a government and community to handle it. New rules should outlaw driving those cars
on the street, using TQM while fixing your car is critical as the car burns fuel its needs to filter harmful
gasses from getting into the air and causing not only health issue for people being exposed to it but to
also protect the ozone layer from any future damage as it protects us from harmful sun rays.

5) Potholes

Detection:

Potholes are one of drivers nightmares and I am one of them. One night I was driving my car on the
highway when I drove over one and hear a loud noise. My car was feeling right so I drove to the
shoulder and stepped out just to see that my tire is flat. I was puzzled so I took out my spare tire and
started to proceed with the tire exchange. After taking the flat tire out I notice there was a huge dent on
the inside on the rim. Trying to put the puzzle together I understood that as I was driving at a high speed
when I passed over the pothole the rim hit the side of the hole and force of the car was high that it
caused the rim to bend letting all the air out causing the sound of a huge bang. There are a lot of
potholes around New Jersey high way. They are easily visible in the morning and can be avoided
somewhat while driving. The DOT or known as Department of Transportation should invest more time
and money to fix those potholes because they can cause permeant damage to lot cars as millions of car
encounter potholes on daily basis.
Prevention:
Once the problem area is located, it should be solved as soon as possible. Potholes tend to expand from
a small one to a larger one over time and when ignored it can be dangerous and cost more money than
fixing it before the problem gets out control. Fixing the pavement will not all help driver but it can
prevent dangerous situations from accruing as potholes can cause serious accidents especially in the
winter when water and ice cover it.

6) Billing Error

Detection:

One of the issues I have faced was being over-billed. If a company is over billing someone they dont
consider correcting the problem. I was a very unhappy customer with T-Mobile my last service provider
as they charged me for a month of service that I didnt use; I took about a month off for vacation and
went overseas to come back home and fine credit card charged. After long hours of phone calls and 10s
of people I had to explain the story to they said they will fix the problem by not billing me for the next
month. Life went on next month I was charged again for the service frustrated enough I called back and
explained the situation they apologized and had to wait for about an hour on the phone to speak with a
manager. They tried to trace back the older conversation with the pervious manger but failed as no
notes were left on the account. They left a few notes this time and for sure the problem was solved this
time. A company should investigate the customers claims and provide a proper action on the spot
without having the customer to take time out their day to make sure that the company is doing its job to
not over charge me. The customer service representative then must contact the billing department and
have them issue a credit to the customer. This occurrence can sometimes damage the relationship the
company has with its customers which happened with me because they didnt take the time to make
things right the first time.
Prevention:
Customer service should note every discussion done with the customer on their file, and try to fix the
problem without having the customer to double check the companys work because it provides a bad
image of customer service and can cause a loyal customer to leave the company.

7) Accidents

Detection:
Vehicle accidents cause a lot number of injures and death worldwide. In the United States
human error is the number one cause of accidents. How many of us were stuck in traffic to find out that
it was caused by an accident. I have been driving for almost 9 years now and have noticed that speeding,
careless driving and driving while texting is the main cause of car accidents.Car accidents are mainly a
human error factor as we drive at high or cursing speeds and loss our grip on reality as we text, make a
phone call, drive at high speeds, and carelessly changing lanes and tailgating the reaction time to avoid
an accident dramatically decreases leaving us with no choice but to crash.
Prevention:
Car accidents cant be stopped for now as technology is moving forward for automated
driverless cares that can detect traffic spend weather condition and a lot more and using sophisticated
software and sensors to maneuver through highways from point A to B. Those cars will also talk to each
other dropping accidents rates. But for now until those cars are on the road the government needs to
have harsher punishment for reckless drivers as well as drunk drivers.

8) Hacking

Detection:
Today more than 1 billion people are connected to the world through Social Networking sites,
sharing their every moment, events and even private moments. In today world you can just Google
anyone and find out more than you can think about from their home town, school, friends and family
and places they been too. If we take a minute to think about it, it is almost creepy that we have that
kind of information at the tip of our fingers. It also leaves the door open for hackers to use that
information against you either to retrieve a password by answering some of the security question and
accessing your account. I have been hacked before and it took me a day or so to know that my account
was accessed by someone else.
Prevention:
To avoid getting into risk, you must follow some simple steps on these Social Networking Sites
such as making a profile blocked off from strangers, dont use easy security question answers that can
be link from you social media such as you maiden name, school that you have attended as those can be
easily found and guessed. Another tool you can use is the 2 step security feature that a lot websites use
such as Facebook, Google, Hotmail, and Banking Websites as they provide a randomized code to your
cellphone that can be used beside your password when logging on from a different IP address. This is a
great tool and its provided by those companies to protect your account from being hacked so why not
use them.

9) Weather Forecasting

Detection:
Weather forecasting and climate change are one of our daily life concerns as we wake up and
before we even look out the window we check our phones for the weather and temperature outside.
The weather change from month to month, day to day and even hour to hour. As we are only human we
are more concerned about the current weather forecasting, as hurricanes, tornados and tropical storms
put our lives in danger as we are take notice of a coming hurricane and disasters just right before they
happen we cant take the right and safe steps to make sure that we are safe during those disasters.
Prevention:
Weather forecasts today depend on collecting and analyzing data and measurements from
around the world specialists meteorological equipment can be very equipped to provide us with even
better detailed and precise and accurate measurements, and more reliable data can be taken. There is
always room for improvement as the saying goes. Early warns should be addressed to the affected
population, when Sandy hit in 2012 a lot people were unprepared, the forecast didnt provide accurate
data to warn us that this hurricane is much more powerful than expected. The hurricane cut down
power for weeks for most of NJ as the lack of gas didnt help us maintain a proper flow of electricity
from our generator as hospitals and local infrastructure also had their own share of power issues
promoting a state of emergency. All of that could have been avoided with preparing for such a storm
with greater gas storage backup electricity line. Those actions would help down size the effect of the
storm on the residents of the NJ and NY.

10) Sony Vaio

Detection:
A few years back I decide to upgrade my laptop, I went to a local Sony store and picked the
laptop I wanted that didnt come with a cheap price tag. 3-4 month into the using the laptop it start
having making noise so I called Tech support and they advised me that this was normal as the laptop
was preforming normally just cooling the motherboard off. A month or so after the laptop wouldnt turn
on. I decided to call Tech support again explain the problem after going through the trouble shooting
process they decided that the motherboard burned out. So within a week a Technician arrived at my
house and started fixing it. After he replaced the motherboard the computer started to run normally not
even 5 minutes in the screen burned out. Customer service provided me to send it in after nearly a
month I got it back. And 3 month later the motherboard burned out again. So I decided to return it for a
refund.
Prevention:
The laptop was only equipped with only one cooling and exhaust fan which caused the laptop to
overheat when it was used for a long period of time at high performance. This shows that Sony didnt
provide TQM during the testing of this laptop and using in extreme conditions. This wasted a lot of hours
out my daily life try to solve the problem which could been avoided by using a better TQM process and
understanding that the processing power of the laptop generated too much heat that one fan couldnt
have possibly cool the laptop without causing permeant damage to it.

11) Soap bottles

Detection:
Using liquid hand wash soaps is great example of bad TQM. As it wastes some of the soap that
no one can use without taking the cap off and flipping upside down, the problem is that the pump cant
get what is left at the bottom of the bottle out at all. There are a lot ways to improve a faulty design by
testing new ideas as well as listening to customers feedback. Another problem with this design is
customers sometimes just throw away the leftover soap which is a wasted product that the company
could benefit from it.
Prevention:
By using new idea and customers feedback the company can draw an idea or methodology to
solve those problems as well as providing great customer service. For example an approach can be using
foam soap in a compressed can or plastic bottle as the viscosity for foam is extremely low or by changing
the bottle from a convex to a concave shape with modifying the soap to be less viscous. There are a lot
of ideas that can be tested and tried out to decrease soap waste in our homes. These are all a TQM but
we can see it in our daily life in even simple stuff as general as soap containers.

1. Fracking boom hits water wall

Fracking seems to be as really bad idea. Water might become scarce resource in the future in some
areas. I wonder if it is possible to re-use the water. I guess water pumped into the ground cant be
recycled.
-Daniel

This article is just more evidence that fracking is a terrible idea and needs to be stopped before
more damage is done to our environment. As stated modern day fracking has become an issue where
once before it was not. Water and air contamination is a huge deal and the struggle for fresh water is
becoming worse. I know technologies are being developed that will help to filter the water and will
make it usable again after the fracking process but as of right now, nothing exists and it is severely
hurting our country. I hope these zoning laws continue to form and this will help to slow down the
growth of fracking.
-Kyle

This article proves that fracking is causing a huge environmental issue. Water is one the main
means of life and during the fracking process clean water gets contaminated. This causes the water not
be reusable easily and need a lot of treatments to make it compatible for human consumption. I was
reading an article the other day about it and it had a video of what fracking can do to the water. The
video showed the water running and the person put a light near it and it immediately the water catches
fire. This shows you how contaminated the water was.
-Fady

There are definitely a variety of health and ecological concerns of fracking which simply cannot
be ignored. The process itself using millions of gallons of fresh water in combination with various harsh
chemicals, rendering the water polluted. During the fracking process, natural gas/oil is extracted from
the shell rock making it weak and more susceptible to earthquakes. Aside from devastating
environmental effects of fracking, there are serious concerns on human health. The process leaves toxic
dust in the air and radioactive material in the water supply in the area. It has been documented that
over 65 unknown chemicals that enter the water stream and the ecosystem destroying vegetation and

even livestock in many cases. With the financial power and influence that these companies have, if they
focused all that towards renewable energy resources, maybe the world will be on a better track.

2. Is Tesla Overeaching with Gigafactory tactics

Gigafactory is an amazing idea, but also very risky. On the hand, Elon Musk showed us
many times how amazing inventor and business man he is. I would prefer that gigafactory
would be built by using private money with possible tax breaks from the state - I think it can
happen. I agree with you that if the U.S. government financed banks and giant motor industry,
they should finance initiatives such as gigafactory.
-Daniel

Elon Musk is one hell of a business man. He is the kind of guy that will ask for your
watch, tell you the time, and you'll pay him to do it. He is a genius dont get me wrong, his
technologies and business skills have made him CEO of the most successful EV company in the
world. I personally cannot believe though that he is trying to get the government involved with
the building of this gigafactory. The idea of the factory is fantastic but i think it should be
privately financed and not with money used from the government. In the long run the people of
the United States are paying towards that and he's raking in millions. I wish people gave me
millions to build a futuristic factory that could make me millions. Hopefully this factory gets
built because it will help produce the new Tesla vehicle which will be a huge hit with its low
price tag but hopefully the financials behind it change.
-Kyle

This article is good one as it shows you that some companies are always going after
profit but as well as providing a good service and trying as much as possible to create a
cheaper price tagged product without losing any value. The Gigafactory is good start to create
and mass produce batteries that are needed for Tesla's model 3 which will be a lot cheaper and
can be purchased by a bigger platform of customers that can't afford spending 80k on an
electric car. He also trying to involve the government local and federal to achieve this dream

sooner and make it a reality. It's not about Tesla anymore, it about using green products for a
more sustainable future. Tesla is just a ln active company that is helping that goal to be
achieved as well as driving more computation so that companies can provide EV at an even
cheaper price and that's how innovation is achieved.
-Fady

I am all for the idea of a GigaFactory as it is a necessary step to further EV production in

an efficient manner. Not only will it produce batteries but in order for it to remain sustainable
for the future, innovation is bound to happen and help the rest of the technology sector as well.
I would like to see the government look at this proposal seriously and make sure it is not just a
hoax and strict EPA and sustainable practices are in place.

3. Metallic Grey Tesla Model S, Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (EV News)

This article is summary of several articles about Electric Vehicles. The most interesting articles are
about Tesla cars, but I found article about 5 tips cutting down on carbon emission interesting and
helpful. Also, Mitsubishi Outlander might be very interesting electric car with huge sale potential.
-Daniel

This article has had over 18 other articles written into it about electric vehicles and green
sustainable ideas. I found the ones about Tesla most interesting and i also like to read about market
trends with EVs and how big cities are adopting green vehicles more rapidly now. the 3 articles on Tesla
talk about many different things including their growth in the industry and how they set the bar for
electric vehicles worldwide. They are "the least stolen vehicle" which is an interesting fact I never knew,
with such a high price tag you would assume they get broken into a lot but with that I guess the
protection comes from it being technologically advanced and much harder to steal when compared to a
normal 15 year old car.
-Kyle

This article was really interesting for me as it was multiple articles within one article. It just talks
about how electric vehicles are started to show strongly in big cities. I personally have noticed that as I
walked around New York City which I really hope people are understanding the importance if pushing
electric cars, not because it looks cool but because it's a green products that will us save our planet. This
also will drive other car manufacturers to start investing in electric vehicles as well as providing more
R&D money and effort to create a greener product.
-Fady

Various articles in this particular article are interesting ways to go about being green and sustainable.
Some of the articles are quite obvious like more and more cities are adopting EV. I enjoyed the articles
on Tesla as they talk about different aspects of their business and where they want to grow. Something
really out of the blue was the article where they describe EVs are the least stolen cars. This could be
because of the modern technology that they come equipped with or simply because there are not
enough out there yet compared to 10+ year old cars.
