Dear Mr. Thompson,
It has been approximately 4 years since our first encounter but the conversation still remains
vivid in my memory. I had turned in an assignment that was incomplete and lacked organization.
You berated me in front of the entire class and that night, I cried to my mother that I refused to
attend another one of your classes. A few of my friends dropped out of your evening lessons but
eventually I stuck it through. That decision was a phenomenal one and your impact on my life
will never be forgotten. I am more thorough with my work, I do not shy away from difficult
encounters and more importantly you gave me the foundation to be a great student.
The harsh way you criticized my assignments was initially unbearable but eventually I began to
appreciate it. The saying that which doesnt kill you can only make you stronger is the perfect
phrase to use when describing your teaching methods. After spending almost two years in your
classroom I have acquired skills I doubt I could get elsewhere. I became more organized and I
realized the importance of presentation that is precise and clean. You especially forced me to
work harder and to spend more time on my studies that ultimately became a habit, a great one.
You made me love mathematics. You moved me to appreciate it for what it was and not
perceiving it to be the hated subject every student dreads. I am now pursuing a career whose
foundation lies on math and has a 0% unemployment rate. It is safe to say that if you did not
break the subject down and strengthen my understanding of its content, I would not have
received scholarships and awards during my freshmen and sophomore years. I struggled with
math during high school and soon I will be an expert at it. Your teaching brought that to life.
Even though my first few days in your classes were almost torture, if I could do it again, I would.
You set high standards for my classmates and myself and with that I expect nothing less than
success to be apart of my future. If more teachers in Jamaica were like you, our nation would
have the best youth a small country could ask for. I have encouraged my younger friends to
attend your classes because they will receive the tools necessary to survive in todays demanding
society. Thank you for leading me on the path I am on that will lead me to higher heights.

Best regards,
