Adolescent Developmental Milestone

Physical development

During this stage the physical change in adolescents girls begin to change in body shape
and height. Physical change in boys is that their voice change and body and height change.
Furthermore, at this stage adolescence body is maturing into adulthood. At this stage both boys
and girls face difficulties with acne. However, during this physical stage of development both
boys and girls have puberty hair throughout their body. At this stage adolescent is in the
following stages:
Growth spurt
Puberty
Change in body
Males have stronger voices

Language Milestone in Adolescence

During this stage, adolescence talks with maturity. As adolescent move through the
different stages of development, they transition from using basic grammar to higher level of
speaking. At this stage, adolescence writing skills should be more advanced than over the
years. Most adolescence show progress in writing papers or other writing assignments when
there are challenging tasks that interest them. During this stage, adolescence should be
advanced in abstract thinking skills. However, at this stage, adolescence should be in the
following stage:
Providing feedback to others.
Using abstract thinking skills.
Using language to make connection to the world.

Cognitive Developmental Milestone

During this stage, adolescence develops abstract thinking. In the cognitive stage of
development adolescence think like adults would think. Adolescence solves their own problems
and try to make positive decision than they did in early years. At this stage, adolescence use
knowledge to understand their world around them. Adolescents move from beginning concrete
thinkers, who think of things that they have direct contact with or knowledge about, to abstract
thinkers, who can image things not seen or experienced (Sanders, R.A., 2013). With that being
said, It allows adolescence to have the capacity to love, think about spirituality, and participate
in more advanced mathematics (Sanders, R.A., 2013). During the cognitive development stage
adolescent should be in the following stage:
Eager to learn new task
Apply skill and knowledge
Abstract thinker

Social/Emotional
During an adolescent stage, when children socialize, it helps them to become who they
are and it help them to form their identity. When peers, teacher and parent can communicate, it
will build an adolescent confidence and it will motivate them to achieve in academic success.
Having concern people in an adolescent life will allow them to accomplish their goals in life.
During this stage adolescents should be doing the following:

Adolescent feel as though making friends is very important because they can express
their emotions around friends.
Adolescent focus on future goals
Adolescent feel comfortable about expressing their opinion, which it builds self-esteem.

Moral/Reasoning
During the adolescent stage of moral/reasoning, adolescents should be doing the
following in this developmental stage:

Adolescents change from pleasing themselves to pleasing others


Adolescents get approval from others meet their expectations
Adolescents like to justify their behavior when they know that they are in the wrong
Adolescents can understand rules and regulations

Atypical Developing Adolescent


However, atypical adolescents will have problem with transitioning from middle
childhood to adulthood. At this stage, atypical adolescent would see the world different from
most. Atypical adolescence will struggle with classroom assignments and activities. Also
atypical adolescent will have numerous behavior problems because of their delay.

Social Factor
Social factor that can influence adolescents will be peers interaction. During this stage,
adolescents look up to peers for answers. However, adolescent feel as though they have to
change from pleasing themselves to pleasing others. During this stage, adolescents discuss
different issues with peers and friends to be able to fit in or to feel like they belong. However,
doing this stage adolescents face a lot of peer pressure.

Culture Factor
Culture factor that can influence adolescents will be peers and friends. Having positive peers will
allow children to feel comfortable in the environment. Teacher can group peers up and have a
discussion on each other culture. By doing so, will give each child ideas on what culture had to
face and learn about their morals, values and beliefs. However, class can have a Christmas
around the world celebration, so that everyone will get a chance to learn about everyone culture
and taste the different foods from each culture.

Strategies for Families


Parents can provide a safe and nurturing environment, so that it will foster learning in the
home. At this age, Parent and child can explore the internet for learning purpose. Parent can help
child with homework activities or assignments. At last, parent can provide learning games to
enhance their child`s growth and development. Parents that are having difficulties on how to
provide the best care for their child can see a counselor.
