To Whom It May Concern: My name is Jarrod Bennett. { have studied Theatre Education at Winthrop University, and if you are reading this, then you are viewing a portfolio outlining my merits in theater, education, and other disciplines that may serve to highlight my capabilities for this job. Enclosed in this portfolio, you will find a brief history of my work thus far, including two résumés—one for performance, and one for teaching—letters of recommendation from known references, a teaching philosophy, awards and scholarships, a sample course syllabus, sample lesson plans, assignments, and assessments, sample written work, sample original projects, and sample production work. While the résumés and the references are a standard for job applications, the sample work is a bit more personalized. ‘The letters of recommendation, as well as my awards and scholarships, will outline my credentials as noted’ by people who specialize in theatre and education. The sample lesson plans should give an accurate impression of how I intend to work with students, using student-led projects and performance-based assessments. The sample written work demonstrates critical thinking skills that served to analyze a specific part of my theater education curri¢ulum in the logic of my discipline as a whole. The sample original projects are my originally written plays that I have directed and performed. Finally, the production work should provide a visual of the diverse experiences in theatre as I’ve had thus far.
