MILEY CYRUS AND PEARL:

C H A R A C T E R C O M PA R I S O N

THESIS AND
UNI-T
Uni-T: People are constantly

criticized and ostracized for

their individual choices and
flaws.

Thesis: Because Miley and

Pearl were shunned for their

wild behavior that went
against society's standards,
this suggests that humanity
struggles to accept those
who are true to themselves
but do not fit in the society's
view of normality.

SYMBOL: W
FOR WILD
W for wild describes both

Miley and Pearl.

For Miley, her outrageous,

outlandish, party-like
behavior is considered wild
and frowned upon by society.
She is wild to societys

standards due to her

abandonment of wellbehaved expectations.

MILEY CYRUS
S I N : B E H AV I O R
Miley Cyrus did not commit a

sin, she was shunned from society

because she did not follow what
they believed was normal. She
was expected from childhood
fame to remain pure and honest.

Her wild, outrageous behavior

that goes against societys
standards of proper behavior.

She was shunned and looked

down upon for her actions, when

in reality, that is just who she is.
She stayed true to herself.

T H E I M PA C T O F T H E S I N
Miley was not negatively impacted by the public's

disapproval and used the negativity to her own

benefit.

In her eyes she is just being her true self, which is

shown when she said in an interview, I didnt even

think about it cause thats just me. I dont pay
attention to the negatives

She shows no desire to redeem herself since she

believes that she should not have to conform to

society.

MILEY AND PEARL

Pearl and Miley were both involved with sin without

committing a truly sinful act. Pearl was born into sin while
Miley was assumed to have done sinful acts due to her
public actions.

Furthermore, each person express characteristics that are

viewed as odd and wild. Miley and Pearl both act as

themselves and choose to do activities that make them
happy, which is wild and sinful to the public.

They both were shunned as sinful for the exposure of the

truth within themselves and their opposition of society's

beliefs that certain people should act and perform a
certain way.

P E A R L A N D M I L E Y C O N T.

Pearl once described that she ...had been plucked by

her mother off the bush of wild roses (76). The

bush, growing outside the prison door serves as a
comparison to Pearl's attitude versus the Puritans. The
door, rigid and stiff, exemplifies the unwavering
Puritan beliefs while the natural, growing, and
blossoming bush contrasts against the dark, steadfast
door

CONCLUSION
Both Miley and Pearl never committed any

sin. Instead, they given the title of

"sinners" due to the nature of their past
and present actions. Pearl was born into
sin due to her mothers adultery. She
continued to establish her own legacy by
saying what she felt, being upfront about
other's behaviors, and doing as she
pleased. This differs from the Puritan's well
mannered, hard work ethic. Miley was
sinful due to her publicized actions. She
does as she desires and does not care
what people have to say about her
carefree attitude. She did not follow the
way society wanted her to behave which
caused people to shun and disapprove of
her decisions. Society is not tolerance of
those who make their own decisions on
their own terms.
