Tutorial 7. ( Motion Relative to Rotating Axes)

1. A ride in an amusement park consists of a rotating platform P, having a constant angular

velocity p =1.5 rad/s and four cars, C, mounted on the platform, which have constant
angular velocities C/P = 2 rad/s measured relative to the platform. Determine the
velocity and acceleration of the passenger at B at the instant shown.

2. The ball B of negligible size rolls through the tube such that at the instant shown, when

r = 0.60 m, it has a velocity of 1.5 m/s and an acceleration of 0.90 m/s2, measured relative
to the tube. If the tube has an angular velocity of = 3 rad/s and angular acceleration of
= 5 rad/s2 at this same instant, determine the velocity and acceleration of the ball.

3. Block B moves along the slot in the platform with a constant speed of 0.6 m/s, measured

relative to the platform in the direction shown. If the platform is rotating at a constant rate
of = 5 rad/s, determine the velocity and acceleration of the block at the instant = 60o.
Take h = 0.60 m and radius r =0.90 m.

4. Rod AB rotates counterclockwise with a constant angular velocity = 3 rad/s. Determine

the velocity and acceleration of point C located on the double collar when =45o. The
collar consists of two pin connected slider blocks which are constrained to move along
the circular path and the rod AB
