Program Name:
Overall renovation of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum

Purpose:
2nd phase, Building America of the overall museum renovation. The updated design will create an immersive
environment, interactive exhibits, better use of space and display of more objects.

Benefits/ Opportunity:

New and returning visitor interest and increased donations


Cutting edge interactive exhibits
Immersive environmental design
Provide more display opportunities for artifacts
Better use of space and visitor traffic flow
More graphics to tell the Union Pacific history

Objectives:

Convey the scope of the Transcontinental Project trough experiences and images designed to bring home the
hard work and individual effort involved in constructing the first transcontinental railroad on an individual level
where possible.
Re-interpret the railroad as a vehicle which impacts communities; both tying them together and creating new
communities.
Explain the cultural conflict which came to a head during the construction period with the Plains tribes.
Use authentic, primary sources from the collection to convey the message; especially photographic images and
maps.

Constraints:
This section lists all the limitations facing this project that cannot be changed.
Note if one constraint takes precedence over the others; i.e. if the target date is imposed by
federal regulation, then it may be the primary constraint and take on more importance than a
cost constraint.

Risks:
High impact or high likelihood events, which could negatively impact this project, but may be
dealt with by project activities to avoid, mitigate, and/or manage the risk.
Risks may be related to costs, technology, operations, organizations, resources, etc.
