Materials and Resources: (1) Chart paper (2) Edmodo and Sketch application
on IPad (3) Two paragraphs to find the main idea and details (4) Projector (5) Ice
cream cone graphic organizer (6) Brown bags for each group (7) Items with
things in common to place in the brown bags

students will be asked to turn their IPads on and go
to Edmodo application to open up the ice cream cone
graphic organizer file. Once they find the file they will
open it in their sketch application that will allow them
to type or write their answers in the graphic
organizer. The teacher will use the projector to show
the students exactly how to get to the file on their
IPad. The teacher will then instruct them to use a
similar thought process as the model example to find
the main idea and details of so they can complete the
graphic organizer using the new paragraph as an
assessment.
Lesson Closure
Once the students have finished filling out their

Main Idea Activity. First, the teacher will model how
he/she wants the students to find the main idea of the
bag and a few safety rules. Then, the students will
work together in their groups to pull out the items of
their bag and discuss what the main idea of the bag
is. Once the groups have come to a conclusion, each
group will have the opportunity to share what was in
their bag and what the main idea of their bag was
along with an explanation.
