Introduction
Set up Post-It Note easel to show the Social Studies Program of
Studies compass and concept maps.
Today well learn an overview of the Social Studies Program of
Studies including the six strands of social studies, the skills and
processes being developed through social studies and how
studies of countries GLOs fit into the six strand model.
Since we will be working as a group, it is an expectation that
everyone is respectful. Students show this respect by not
interrupting one another.

Hand-out Social Studies Program of Studies to students.
Body
Introduce the six strand of social studies and explain that each
build citizenship and identity for students.
Have students preform popcorn readings:
Without naming anyone specific, I will invite students to begin
reading. When that person finishes, another student is expected
to follow, again without explicit direction from myself. The
process continues until everyone has taken a turn.

Each person is going to be given an SLO on a small postit note


As a group, everyone will work together to decide what
strand of social studies the SLO falls under.
The third activity will allow me to assess whether or not
students have met the learning objectives.

Studies working with the Skills and Processes.
