Down in a Hole
Blurb:
Life just isnt getting better for young musician Layne.
Storyline:
This is the story of a young musician, Layne, in a dark period of his life when his girlfriends
unexpected death leads him into loneliness and confusion. When he receives the news he is
in too much shock that he goes to bed. Within the night he experiences intense flashbacks of
his girlfriend. They are so real. He dreams of holding her hand and enjoyed her company,
and while she used to sit there and listen to him play guitar. The dream then turns to black.
One day later he is seen writing a song. He is sitting playing when he breaks down. He then
continues to play. As he plays he opens his eyes to see his girlfriend sitting in front of him
like she always used to when she would listen to him. He closes his eyes and opens them
again and she has gone. Layne goes home feeling very low and confused. She appears
before him again while he tries to sleep.
This results in Layne tracking his girlfriend in which he finds himself standing before her
grave.

Character Biographies
Layne: A young man, 20 years old, who has had a bumpy upbringing. His parents divorced
when he was 9 years old. He is an innocent soul with good intentions and morals. He is calm
and chilled out with good emotional control. His love for his girlfriend Demri is strong as she
keeps him happy and confident. Rock music is his biggest passion and he enjoys going to
gigs, getting together with his band, seeing friends, talking about his favourite bands and
listening to music. He wishes to become something bigger with his music in the future. Many
of his songs relate to his difficult upbringing and his Dads substance use which has had a
big impact on his life.

Demri: Laynes girlfriend, 21 years old, who has come from a difficult background like her
partner. Her mother died when she was 12 years old from alcohol abuse and her Dad
struggles to pay the bills. She is a very warm person and has supported Layne throughout
their 6 year relationship. She compliments him with their similar natures. She is lively and
has a strong front meaning she will never hesitate to stand up for herself. She is the
drummer of a grunge band. Sometimes she collaborate with Layne.

Down in a Hole

[Nutshell by Alice in Chains playing]

[The film begins]

Richie is sitting alone in his room. He looks completely blank as he has

just found out that his girlfriend Demri has been involved in a car
accident. He looks down at a photograph of her, drops it and gets into bed.

LAYNE
Where are you?

He sighs and closes his eyes. Turns to black. He begins having flash backs.
[Dream sequence begins]
Demri holding hands with Layne, smiling. Layne playing guitar and Demri
listening. Layne and Demri cuddling. Demri walking away until she
disappears.
Black.
2 weeks into the future.
Layne is playing guitar and singing a song.
His band mate is just leaving the room.

BAND MATE
If you need anything buddy let me know, Im just a phone call
away. Come round mine or something soon. Get your mind off
things.
LAYNE
(Upset) Cheers man. Ill let you know.
His band mate leaves the room with Layne sitting alone. He continues to
play. His playing becomes more intense. [Multiple fast paced shots of Layne
playing over time building up tension]. He looks around in front of him
quickly then he looks down. Something catches his attention but when he
looks back there is nothing there. It was Demri.

Demri?

Layne looks around him feeling uncomfortable. He then looks to the ground
shaking his head in disbelief. Continuing on with the song that he was
playing and finds himself constantly messing up what he playing.

Thats enough for today.

Layne put his guitar into its case, unplugs his amp, puts his coat on and
walks out with his items.
He walks home feeling very lost, confused and low. As he gets in he hangs
up his coat, places down his amp and gets out his guitar. He begins to play
a song which then fades into music on the scene.
The flashbacks come flowing back in through his head. He just sits lost in
life.
[Creep by Stone Temple Pilots begins playing]
Layne walks along through his town. He looks into his own reflection and
pulls away. He sits down playing on his Xbox then looks round to the
controller that isnt being used. He sits down to eat and looks across at
the empty chair opposite him. He continues to walk along into the skate
park. He stands looking across into the horizon.

Layne is asleep in his bedroom. He is awakened from a bad dream. He looks

across the room when he sees Demri for a split second. He jumps up but she
has gone. He walks over to his window to look outside and sees her standing
outside. He puts on his clothes, runs down the stairs, slips his shoes on
and races outside. He sees her again but walking away round the corner. He
continuously runs tracking her until he finds himself standing still.
Standing before her grave.

THE END.
