Aim and description of the activity

Aim is to train the mind to remain in present. Breath is

the object of attention. By remaining alert they develop
alertness. By remaining attentive they develop
attentiveness. By remaining aware of breath they
develop awareness.
Aim is to develop the skill of systematic thinking.
Developing
Thinking Skills Problems are given for mental calculations. How to think
and answer is explained. Daily one problem is given
( 1 minute )
which is difficult but has a scope to think and answer.
One may call it Vedic Mathematics or Speed Mathematics
or Mental Mathematics but the purpose is to develop the
skill of thinking.
Aim is to develop memory by remembering. Children are
Developing
asked to close their eyes and go back to the previous
Memory
class and remember what the teacher was teaching and
( 1 minute )
what they have written in their notebooks. After a
minute or so they open their eyes and check their
memory with their notebooks.
Listening is basic requisite for understanding,
Developing
Listening Skills remembering and reproducing. Whenever the teacher
uses the word Listen children stop doing anything else
like the statue game they play. They keep looking at the
teacher and focus their attention at the entrance of their
ears and starts listening to understand. This is practiced
sincerely in all the periods.
When the Days Lesson is introduced and being
Developing
Understanding developed children practice understanding while
listening. While doing this they will not do anything else
such as writing the notes, searching their bags, looking
here and there except the interaction with the teacher.

Once the teaching is over, Xerox copy of the well planned

notes prepared by the teacher in advance, is given to the
student to write it on the board. All the other children
practice RURAW (Reading Understanding Remembering
and Writing) while taking the notes.
These activities are well explained in the class and shown
on the screen with PPT or Dynamic Geometry softwares.
Work done by the leading batch is displayed on the wall
or in a central place. Remaining children would complete
their work by taking this as a model.
Aim is to develop skill in numerical simplifications. A
question bank is prepared with all the numerical
simplifications using the four fundamental operations
with Integers, Rational numbers from 6, 7, and 8 class
books. Drilling is done with these problems once in a
week.
Geometers Sketchpad is application software which can
be used to teach Mathematics very effectively. Because
of the scope for animation, visualizing the abstract
concepts becomes easy. During the CAL periods children
are taken to the LAB to teach Mathematics.
Aim is to inculcate the habit of doing Mathematics on
daily basis. While students are taking the notes i.e.,
practicing item 6 (RURAW), teacher moves around in the
class and checks the CW of every student. HW is checked
on random selection. If one does the HW of the previous
day then it is rewarded with Good otherwise simple
sign with date.

Consolidation and report of the feedback from the children, of the various
activities done under CCE during 2011-12 academic years in classes 8A & 8B
Feedback forms are collected from 64 children (30 in 8A and 34 in 8B). Most of
them rated all most all the activities as EXCELLENT. However it is in the process of
perfection. Scanned feedback forms are attached here with.
