JOB DESCRIPTION DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND OPERATIONS
Summary of Position The Director of Finance and Operations provides accurate information regarding the financial position and financial forecasts to support the long-term financial sustainability of Canterbury School. The Director of Finance and Operations oversees maintenance of and improvements to campus building and grounds. Major Duties and Responsibilities In a timely manner, accurately record and report all financial transactions Prepare operating and capital forecasts at least quarterly for review by the Head of School and Finance Committee Supervise Assistant Business Manager primarily in accounts payable and student billing. Prepare preliminary and final annual budgets with Head of School for submission to Finance Committee Prepare audit schedules and assist with annual audit conducted by independent auditors Continually review and enhance internal controls. Ensure adherence to current accounting policies Administer all employee benefit plans and employee-related policies Supervise Manager of Building and Grounds; assist with setting plant policies and priorities Prepare supplemental schedule of endowment activity including individual fund activity and annual transfer to operating budget Reconcile monthly donations recorded in financial records with Advancement Office Prepare bi-monthly payrolls Assist Head of School with annual employment contracts Work with Finance Committee on goal-setting and other activities as requested Serve on Building and Grounds Committee and prepare updates periodically on financial reserves and ongoing maintenance/ improvements initiatives Attributes Required B. S. in accounting and prior accounting experience Working knowledge of employee benefit administration Ability to balance many projects simultaneously and set priorities Good communication skills, including communication with co-workers and other business relationships such as bankers, benefits consultants, etc.
