Business Management Lesson Plan

Subject: Day 4 - Scheduling

Standards:
7.0 - PERFORM GENERAL OFFICE MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS
7.5 - Schedule employee work assignment
7.6 - Monitor project progress with management reporting system
7.7 - Adjust action based upon collection and analysis of project data and records
9-10.RST.3 - Follow precisely a complex multistep procedure when carrying out experiments, taking
measurements, or performing technical tasks, attending to special cases or exceptions defined in the text.
9-10.RST.7 - Translate quantitative or technical information expressed in words in a text into visual form
(e.g., a table or chart) and translate information expressed visually or mathematically (e.g., in an
equation) into words.
Objective:
The students will be able to read, understand and be able to create a work schedule that has multiple
components
Evidence of Mastery (Measurable Behaviors):
Ability to read and follow a work schedule, apply efficient and effective work schedule for one week
based upon the criteria given by the teacher
Key vocabulary:
Manager, cashier, cook, grill, drive-thru, janitor,
maintenance, host/ess, wait(er/ress), stocker

Materials/Technology Resources to be Used:


PowerPoint, whiteboard, erasable markers,
scheduling worksheets

Opening (Anticipatory Set):


Bell work: Students will write down and define the vocabulary words in their vocabulary journals
Students will be asked to recall the previous 3 days of scheduling information and examples
Students will be asked if they have ever ordered food from a take-out or sit-down restaurant

Instructional Input

Review content and vocabulary for Unit plan
days 1, 2 and 3
Create a PowerPoint to explain the different
types of jobs done at two different types of
food service businesses - take-out and sitdown restaurant
Explain the way the industry schedules their
employees to work and why
A mock fast-food restaurant will be set up in
the classroom
Ask questions to check for understanding and

Complete the worksheet based upon the
given criteria

Closure:
Students will take a brief vocabulary quiz, matching terms with definitions the last 15 minutes of class
Teacher will ask students to share their worksheets with the class and explain their reasoning to the best
of their ability; depending on allotted time to allow for the quiz, the worksheets may be complete
overnight and handed in the following school day
Ticket Out the Door:
Students will turn in the quiz and worksheets completed during the class
Accommodations:
Teacher will teach content vocabulary.
Teacher will follow all I.E.P.s for students with special needs.
Teacher will create note pages for all students with special needs.
