Assessment is something that is a vital way to measure student progress. Throughout this
unit plan, I have created different assessment techniques that will measure these students and
their progress. I implement a pre assessment aspect to each of my lessons by asking students 3-5
questions as a warm up. These questions are focused on the topic of the day. During my first
introduction lesson, I want students to be thinking about trading and the idea of networks. In later
lessons, students will think about religion and empires. Students will use any prior knowledge
they have to start thinking about the topic of the day. Formative assessments are used when
students will use learning to help for concepts. One way that I will include this is during our
geography lesson. Students will place empires, cities, and bodies of water on a map. We will go
over this map as a class. Assessment as learning are used during the lessons when I use the John
Green videos. Students watch a 10 minute lesson that introduces a topic and they fill out a
Google form while doing so. Students will be listening to a lesson, and answer questions that
correlate with the video.
My summative assessment is the infographic that I want students to create. Students will
decide what three main concepts they think are most vital to the Silk Road. They will create an
illustration and have a sentence or two explanation under each graphic. Students will also pick
two geographical regions along the Silk Road and explain the goods that they traded which will
include an illustration and a list of goods exported from a particular area. The rubric is one that
the students will use to see how effective they work as a group, and will also measure the quality
of work presented.
