TIME: 30 mins
EQUIPMENT:

OBJECTIVES:
To perform a variety of fitness activities rhythmically.
To work together with peers to accomplish parachute activities.
To develop strength through parachute activities.
CALIFORNIA PE STANDARDS:
Introductory Activity:
1.1 Move to open spaces within boundaries while travelling at increasing rates of speed.
Fitness Activity:
3.1 Participate in enjoyable and challenging physical activities for increasing periods of time.
4.10 Identify muscles being strengthened during the performance of particular physical
activities.
Lesson Focus:
3.6 Engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity for increasing periods of time.
Game:
5.6 Participate positively in physical activities that rely on cooperation.
5.2 Accept responsibility for ones own behavior in a group activity.
PART 1: INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITY (2-3 mins):

PART 2: FITNESS DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY (8-12 mins):

Activity
35 seconds each. The instructors will call out the
activity.
a. Arm circles
b. Lunges
c. Jumping jacks
d. Knee lifts
e. Run with clap: clockwise &
counterclockwise
f. Crab kick
g. Marching
PART 3: LESSON FOCUS (15-20 mins):
Activity
Each instructor will have a different lesson,
lasting 4 minutes each.
1. Curl-Up
Extend the body under the
parachute in curl-up position, so
that the chute comes up to the chin
when held taut. Do curl-ups,
returning each time to the stretched
chute position.
2. Dorsal Lift
Lie prone, with head toward the
parachute and feet pointed back,
away from it. Grip the chute and
slide toward the feet until there is
some tension on it. Raise the chute
off the ground with a vigorous lift
of the arms, until head and chest
rise off the ground. Return.
3. Kite Run
The class holds the chute on one
side with one hand. The leader
points in the direction they are to
run while holding the chute a lot
like a kite.
4. Color Exchange
Children are called by a color. The
teacher calls a color as the dome is
made, and those with the color

new activity could begin.

Students will listen to instructor for
the color being called.
Team Ball
Have two balls of different colors.
Tell students to bounce their ball
on the opposite side.

5. Team Ball
Divide the class in half, each team
defending half of the chute. Using
from 2 to 6 balls of any variety, try
to bounce the ball off the
opponents side.
6. Chute Crawl
Half of the class, either standing or
kneeling, stretches the chute at
waist level parallel to the ground.
The remaining children crawl
under the chute to the opposite side
from their starting position.
PART 4: GAME ACTIVITY (5 mins):
Activity
Red Light, Green Light Game
The teachers will randomly call out a color:
Red
Yellow
Green

Red = stop
Yellow = slow down
Green = go
