Write More Addition Sentences For 10

Days: 2 Date: 10/ 29 & 30/2014
Content and Standards: CC.K.OA.2 Understand addition as putting
together and adding to.
II.
Prerequisites: The student will have a basic understanding of counting.
III.
Essential Questions: How can you solve addition word problems and complete the addition sentence?
IV.
Instructional Objective: The student will solve addition problems within 10
and record the equation.
V.
Instructional Procedures: Before: In whole group the student will be
engaged with reading a book on number sense. With guided practice the students will work to put together with an unknown addend (e.g., There are eight children. Six are wearing shorts. The rest are wearing jeans. How many children are wearing jeans? Students will understand that the number being added is the unknown number, and that they are being given the number that tells how many in all, or the total. The students will then break into small and partner groups to further practice with addition facts. a. During: Day One Centers - Teacher learning activity: Green Table: Addition for Kindergarten. Blue Table: Addition Count the Room, Orange: Creepy Counting Addition. b. Day Two: Teacher learning activity: Green Table: Addition 10 and My Halloween Counting Book. Blue Table: How many Spiders. Orange Table: Creepy Counting. c. After: Students will demonstrate their ability to put together numbers 1 10 individually or with guided assistance.

Assessment/Evaluation: The student will be observed in whole group, small
group, and with a partner for his or her ability to understand addition as putting together and adding to. The student will further understand for any number 1 9, how to make 10.
VIII. Differentiation: Individualized Activities:
a. Extension: As students develop proficiency with solving each type of addition structure, then they will be encouraged to display their ability to write problems for other to solve. If students complete the Making Ten worksheet they may work on My Halloween Counting Book. b. Intervention: Students will be allowed to work with smaller numbers as needed within 5 so that they can practice using efficient strategies to solve the problems. IX.

Self-Assessment: A reflection on the students understanding and ability to
find 10 from a given number and record the answer during whole group, small group and/or individual expression will be used to make changes ongoing as well as design future lessons incorporating data gathered from the students response to the lesson.
