Young Marriages and Marriage

The world is a very taboo place, and the people of this world have their own, different
opinions. Every choice, idea, and belief is debated and one of the biggest debates is on young
marriage. Throughout this annotation, marriage as a whole links to my reflection of young
engagement and marriage to my boyfriend Zachary, first starting off as just a simple bucketlist
goal, and now an annotated future reflection. During this process, I discovered five sources that
helped me analyze and support my choice; two online articles, two databased journals, and a
philosophy course reference. All five sources express the idea of marriage, young marriages, and
my positive beliefs of young marriages.
People Who Marry Young Are Happier but Those Who Marry Later Earn More
The title of this first article automatically captured my attention due to how I argue
against its 50/50 accuracy. Not al later marriages earn and benefit more than early marriages,
but this article gave factual inputs, scientific, life experienced proof of how this is true. It
represented facts and statistics of early and older marriages for couples, and the things that
theyll endure together and individually such as finances, emotions, careers, education
parenthood, and sharing a life with each other. It consisted of a blog format that compared and
contrasted young and older marriages as well as the basic facts of marriage itself. Personally, I
view this article as very resourceful but a target towards young couples due to how theyre
judged as too immature, nave, and not wise enough for marriage at such a young age. The basic

Courtney Michelle Anders

facts of needing certain knowledge and necessities to succeed in marriage is vital but not as
beneficial and effective as ambition, faith, confidence, and connection in the bond.
Im a morally, emotionally, and logical based woman, and having the ethological factors
in the bond of marriage such as faith, trust, love, communication, cooperation, understanding,
give a happier, successful marriage, not just the scientific, factual elements such as finances,
experience, a nice home, transportation, career, and education. They are very important and take
part in a marriage and just living period, but you cant rely solely on them to be happy and
successful in life.
Annotating this first article dove deep for me due to the reflections, statistics, opinions, facts and
personal connection. It was a collaborated blog that compared and contrasted young and older
marriages proving that logical, factual, and moralistic proofs can connect.
The Top 10 Advantages of Early Marriages
Now, my next source was a second article online that collaborated ten reason why young
marriages are beneficial and successful, with summarizations of each reasons benefit showing
and connecting to my goal and young a couples journey.
Top 10 Reasons
1. Boost their energies for success
-

Working hard for a better future together

2. Enjoy many years of sex

-

Young metabolism leading to high sex drive

3. Pregnancy is better conceived

Courtney Michelle Anders

Body cells are more energetic and charged allowing for an easy pregnancy that older
women lack.

4. Develop mental capabilities

-

Through work, career, household upkeep, and brings a new edge to their lives and
future together.

5. Ready to become parents at anytime

-

Young couple can take their time to have a child and focus on each other beforehand

6. Religious practice
-

Couple can choose and then follow the religious values and practices and sustain
them through the growth of new family

7. Greater chance to look younger longer

-

Everyone wants to look as young as long as possible, marrying early gives that time
length

8. More cooperation of younger couples

-

More active with each other, more willing to cooperate and adapt to each other

9. Higher chances to become a successful couple

-

If marry young, a couple has more time to learn each other, understand each other,
and learn ones habits, personality and character

10. Enough time to learn practicality

-

Each young individual plays a role and marrying young gives them a chance to adapt
to the lifestyle, and learn and conquer roles of living as adults with daily chores and
jobs such as housekeeping, finances, careers and education.

This was a very long blog but I was quickly enthralled due to how concise it was in
helping explain and express the reasons young marriage is beneficial and not taboo. The reasons
gave me insight to what I already know and will learn as a wife and lifetime partner to Zach
when we make the decision to marry in the near future.
As you can see from my annotation, its credibility goes through just by reading and
connecting to the ten reasons and their explanations. It wasnt easy defining this source but the
collaboration of various articles, authors, inner and outer links, and personal connected posts
helped to do so.
Marriage is Preferable to A Single Life
To mix up my annotations, I also found two journals that came from the colleges
data base library center and this first journal spoke of how being married is more preferred than
being single, not only in young ages but older ages as well. One specific quote, And God said,
it is not good that man should be alone reflects how man was first created single and
independent, than God created woman to be a companion. Now, we wont get into religious
beliefs too much for its a larger taboo topic than younger marriage but it plays a role in
marriage. Its factors of virtue, ethics, religion, and survival all depend on people. Young
marriages offer strength, courage, rebellion, individuality, uniqueness and equal unity of life
which all fall into virtuous, ethical, religious values. You cant live without these and to live this
way in a marriage of any stature not only gives comfort, but continuance of our species.
Another quote reflecting how marriage gives one a sense of comfort ability and bond with
another person, and the gift of expanding life, creating a child and parenting them through the
bond. Personally, this authors journal offered an insight to how young marriage isnt just taboo,

but marriage as a whole act is taboo. People are so independent, stubborn and selfish by nature
that they dont see the bigger, better picture of life and what marriage offers in this life.
Now, this first journal was very beneficial to me due to how it ranged in various
directions of marriage leading into the debate of young marriages. It simply reflected how
marriage is not just a privilege, but a gift that is more preferred in life than being single for who
wants to be alone forever in life? Yes, well always be surrounded by other people, but without
marriage we wont have that bond of companionship, and knowing when others let us down, that
one individual of our bond and love never will.
Marriage: Anthropology Study
Not every journal consists of religious facts and opinions, but they consist of
scientific, or in this case, anthropologic view. In this fourth source I noticed how debate was a
key word used throughout it to express how the view of marriages and young marriages are not
taboo but very much needed. Over the years, Anthropologists have debated what lies at the very
core of marriage as an institution and as a relationship. A quote by the author saying how its a
logical, educational standpoint rather than just a simple bond. To each individual that marries,
the facts have to be considered, so to access that economic, sexuality, childbearing, parenthood
and human feelings are seen as on unification, an unending experiment. Anthropologists also
debated whether its descried best as sentimental and subjective, social or mental structuring, and
a strategic moral choice for people who enter the bond of marriage. I see this view as interesting
for anthropology is a scientific point and a moral view combined for as Ive said, you need both
to succeed in life. Ive always followed my moral views and knowledge before my factual views
due to how those facts alter daily and the debates of these anthropologists prove this.

This particular journal contained overall reviews and personal consistency of

marriages in different culture, life factors and subjects, societies of the world, and various
opinions and critiques that helped me express my choice of marriage and just marrying at a
young age.
For Better or Worse?
My final reflected source was from a current college course in intro to philosophy,
using the text Philosophy: The quest for truth 8th edition as my research center. In this course, a
found one philosopher, Jonathan Rauchs view of marriage almost inspiring for he spoke of
marriage as a lifetime ambition that we hide, and his main topic was on gay marriage; but he did
zone in on the act of marriage in any age as well. In Rauchs studies, he stated the three reasons
for marriage is the production and raising of children, restraining and socializing males, and
ensuring lifetime caregivers reliable to all. In his words, he was stating how in the bond of
unique marriage, such as young marriage, you have the time and youthful ambition to create,
grow, and improve the ideas of marriages for your bond and for the world. I enjoyed his
readings, and using this as a source helped reflect the positivity of young marriages, and simply
stating that its not taboo or negative, just unique and growing.
To use a course, and the information gained from the course as a source for an
annotation was a bit bold and simple but it stated the idea of marriage and how early marriages
are more unique and growing than most want to accept.
An annotated bibliography is a challenging paper to complete, and as you can see
mine is very thorough and long but it reflects, expresses and supports my initial goal point;
young marriages, my dream of young engagement and marriage to Zach, is not a negative,

Courtney Michelle Anders

ignorant choice. I started this inquiry assignment off as just creating a bucketlist, and choosing
one goal off of it that I felt strong towards, furthering it into an annotation analysis of young
marriages and marriages benefits. In this assignment, I found five sources; two online articles,
two data based journals from the colleges library base, and a philosophy textbook containing my
knowledge of a philosophers studies; and each supported my goal. One strong element I
discovered throughout this work, is that a goal can alter into a strengthening analysis, and could
or could not literally change or strengthen your initial standpoint of the topic at hand.
