Teacher will begin lesson by saying I spy something (insert color) and ask the students
to identify what she sees. The student who correctly identifies the object will be given a
turn next. This will continue for 10 minutes to help build anticipation.
1. Students will listen to lesson on the 5 senses on Prezi. This includes watching the
YouTube video, and explaining what is expected of them.
2. After the Prezi presentation, have a discussion with the students using the Mr.
Potato head as an example.
Question 1- Do we use our 5 senses every day?
Question 2- We use our eyes to? (Point to eyes on Mr. Potato Head)
Question 3- We use our ears to? (Point to ears on Mr. Potato Head)
Question 4- We use our noses to? (Point to nose on Mr. Potato Head)
Question 5- We use our tongue to? (Point to tongue on Mr. Potato Head)
Question 6- We use our hands to? (Point to hands on Mr. Potato Head)
3. Teacher will ask students to put their heads down on their desks so they cannot see.
She will pop a bag of popcorn. As she is doing so, she will ask the students what
they are hearing. After she removes the popcorn, she will ask them what they are
smelling. She will then let them look up and ask them what they are seeing.
Teacher will then pass out popcorn to each student placing it on a napkin. She will
ask then to pick up a piece and tell her what they are feeling. Finally, they will be
allowed to eat the popcorn, and say what they are tasting. They will get the chance
to experience the 5 senses firsthand.
4. Teacher will then give the students instructions on how to complete the assessment.
They will be given a Mr. Potato Head worksheet and told to complete it. After
writing their names at the top, they will be told to draw a line to match the 5 senses

to the body part in which they coincide with. Students will turn these into the
teacher when they are completed.
5. Students will be told to write their homework assignment in their planners. They
are expected to complete at least 30 minutes on the Sid the Science Kid game
located on the PBS website. They will be given a paper to take home with the
website on it for them and their parents. They will need to get a signature from their
parents verifying that they completed the minimum of 30 minutes assigned.

Teacher will guide students through the first part of the lesson. She will lead the students
through the Prezi presentation, a group discussion using the Mr. Potato Head, and the
popcorn exercise. She will then advise students on how to complete the worksheet in class
and the homework.
Students will be expected to complete assigned worksheet independently in the classroom
and turn it in, and complete 30 minutes playing Sid the Science Kid online. Students will
then be expected to take home and return the homework assignment parent sheet.
This assignment is configured to be effective for all types of students. It has many visual
elements to help a student that does not easily understand English. The Prezi is set up to
make it easy for them, as well as the discussion, the worksheet, and the homework.
Learning disabled students will find this lesson easy because they will be able to complete
this lesson without needing any modifications. They can listen and see the presentation,
they can participate in the discussion. If they need any assistance on the worksheet, the
teacher will be available to help, and the homework assignment allows them to work at
their own pace and with parent help if necessary.
