and fish in Port Said. It is often considered the country's national dish.

stock or broth to cooked rice and subsequently baking it in an oven. It is
frequently substituted for plain white rice at festive occasions and large
family meals.

Shawarma

A popular sandwich of shredded beef, lamb or chicken meat, usually rolled in


pita bread with Tahina sauce. This is a relatively recent import
from Levantine cuisine, possibly brought by Lebanese or Palestinian
immigrants, it has since become a firm part of the Egyptian culinary
landscape.

Religion in Egypt
Egypt is predominantly Muslim, with Muslims accounting for 90% of a population of
around 80 million Egyptians .The vast majority of Muslims in Egypt are Sunni. There
are under fifty thousand Ahmadi Muslims .There is a minority
of Mu'tazila, Shia Twelvers and Ismailism numbering a few thousands. The remainder
of Egyptians, numbering between 10% and 20% of the population, mostly belong to the
native Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, an Oriental Orthodox Christian
Church. There are around over 12 million Orthodox Copts in Egypt.

Government in Egypt
The politics of Egypt is based on republicanism, with a semi-presidential system of
government. Following the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, and the resignation
of President Hosni Mubarak, executive power was assumed by theSupreme Council of
the Armed Forces, which dissolved the parliament and suspended the constitution. In
2014, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was elected as Egypt's seventh President.
