21st Regional Committee Meeting of WSCF AP

October 29 to November 3, 2014

The 21st Regional Committee Meeting (RCM) of the World Student Christian Federation Asia Pacific (WSCF AP)
Region was held at Wisma Nangun Kerti, Bedugul, Bali, Indonesia from October 29 to November 3, 2014. The
delegates from the following countries attended the RCM representing SCMs of Aotearoa (New Zealand) Australia,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, , Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines,
Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Timor Leste. The 21st RCM was hosted by the SCM Indonesia, also known as GMKI (Gerakan
Mahasiswa Kristen Indonesia)
The RCM is the highest-policy making body of the WSCF Asia-Pacific Region. It is composed of official delegates
from WSCF affiliate and associate members in AP region, WSCF AP officers and staff, observers and guests. The
RCM meets once in two-years to perform the functions under the 'mandate in the WSCF AP By-laws'.
The 21st RCM theme was the same theme of the forthcoming 35th General Assembly of the WSCF Global - We are
Many, We are One: Sent Out to Build Gods Peace to reflect on the theme from the Asian contexts. Dr. John Titaley
the Rector of the Christian University of Salatiga Indonesia, delivered the key note address. Metropolitan
Geevarghese Mor Coorilos, the moderator of the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism of WCC and the
Chairperson of SCM India took a session on Transformative Ecumenism. Dr. Yong Ting Jin the former regional
secretary of WSCF AP and former Coordinator of the AWRC conducted Bible Studies during the RCM. Rev. I Made
Priana from Bali, Indonesia also conducted a bible study on the theme, focusing the context of Indonesia. Ms.
Christine Housel the general secretary and Dr. Horacio Mesones the chairperson of the WSCF brought greetings
through skype conference and shared the concerns, challenges of the Federation and invited the whole AP region to
be part of the fundraising initiatives of the WSCF Global ExCo. Mr. Luciano Kovacs regional secretary of the WSCF
North America region and Mr. Marcelo Leites regional secretary of Latin America and Caribbean also brought
greetings to the 21st RCM through skype conference.
Some of the highlights of the 21st RCMs decisions, recommendations are mentioned below:

The SCM Bhutan is accepted as the associated member of the WSCF AP region
Came up with a strategy for fundraising for the federation to be more self sustainable
Proposal to create the 2015 programme Calendar of the WSCF AP region and share with all the SCMs in
order to support, show solidarity, explore possibilities of joint collaboration and strengthen network on
common initiatives like campaigns and advocacy
The AP region will organize 3 major programmes in 2015
i. Human Rights Justice and Peace(HRJP) ToTs in May will be hosted by SCM Indonesia(GMKI)
ii. Women Doing Theology (WDT) in July will be hosted by SCM Bangladesh
iii.School for Ecumenical Leadership Formation (SELF) in September will be hosted by SCM Taiwan
The AP region will bring a delegation to the 35th General Assembly of the WSCF Global in Bogota,
Colombia.
The following committee members and the officers were unanimously selected by the 21st RCM to lead the
WSCF AP for the next biennium - 2014 to 2016

Apart from the mandated functions, the RCM is also a space for prayer, theological reflection, dialogue, ecumenism
and celebration. It was an opportunity to learn together as an ecumenical family about issues and challenges
confronting by our communities.
