Chalk Talk in Room 12

Lets Recap!
Reading: We finished up our unit on analyzing characters. Of course, we will
continue practicing this skill as we read different texts throughout the year. We
have now started our new unit on sequence of events.
Writing: The students are all either finishing up revising or editing their personal
narratives. We are planning to publish our narratives next week in the computer
lab. They have worked so hard, and we are all excited to share. The students
also completed their Turkey Tom descriptive writing project this week.

Math: As we begin to wrap up our

Geometry unit, we focused on both
regular and irregular polygons this
week. We also learned the difference
between a line, line segment, and a ray.
We also practiced measuring the
perimeter of quadrilaterals. We will
complete our unit on geometry next
week and will have our assessment on
Wednesday.
Science: We finished up Chapter 4 on
rocks, minerals, and soil. This week we
conducted an experiment to determine
which type of soil best supports plant
growth. We also tested out different
rocks based on their properties. We
completed the Chapter 4 review and will
have our assessment on Tuesday.
Word Study: This week focused on
plural endings. The students had to
identify and apply the four different rules
for adding s, -es, or ies.
