According to Derek Cornforth (2005), prevention rather than remediation is
desirable where slope failure is likely to be rapid and there is a high risk of damage and injuries. These failures include flow slides, earthquake-induced slides, and rock slides. Potential landslides due to these causes can be reduced in a cost-effective way by taking these actions: 1. Identify landslide risk through hazard mapping and past experience, and then implementing a plan of hazard reduction on a prioritized basis. 2. Periodic inspections of facilities that is vulnerable to landslides to observe any early signs of distress and if appropriate, take preventive action to avert a landslide. 3. Maintaining and improving drainage measures in areas vulnerable to landslides. 4. Protect lifeline facilities, buildings and other places of public access from earthquake-induced landslides. Therefore, prevention measures should be taken to curb a reoccurrence of the landslide in Bukit Antarabangsa are as follows: 1. Efforts must be made to identify areas with similar non-compacted filled or dumped ground. 2. Repair and upgrade damaged and undersized drains within the vicinity of Bukit Antarabangsa. 3. Installing subsoil drains at areas where water seepage and high ground water table are located. 4. Installing instrumentation monitoring equipment as early warning system at high risk areas. 5. Implementing detailed inspection and assessment of slopes with signs of distress. Areas with prolonged soil creep must be regularly inspected and preventive works must be immediately undertaken. 6. All water pipe adjacent to slope shall be exposed. 7. All the water and sewer utilities on slopes shall be inspected periodically for leakage and damage. 8. All hillside development shall follow strictly to the development guidelines by the local authority.
