The Greater Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce

Board of Directors adopts Resolution in support of City of
Homesteads $21 million Bond Referendum for New Police
Headquarters Facility and temporary facility during
construction and support for the City of Homesteads
$5 million Bond Referendum for Renovation and
Improvements to the Seminole Theatre Building
Looking to the future while celebrating our past includes many aspects of community
life and on May 13, 2014, Homestead voters have the opportunity to choose to
support two bond issues that demonstrate that balance when it comes to quality of
life. The referendums being placed on the ballot of a special election provide for a
general obligation bond not exceeding 21 million dollars for a new police
headquarters facility and a temporary facility, and a second general obligation bond
not exceeding 5 million dollars to complete the renovation of the historic
Seminole Theater that will become Homestead's Cultural Arts Center.

President

The Chamber of Commerce that serves more than 425 businesses is committed to
our mission to promote economic growth, constructive change and superior quality
of life through the implementation of goals and programs that advocate the objectives
of the local business community. After documentation of the severe health risks of the
current police station and recognition of the operational limitations to adequately
support the planned growth of the community, the Chamber urges voters to approve
the bond. The plans for the temporary station and the future station will secure our current and future needs as we seek to bring
in new businesses for sustained economic growth.
The Chamber also fully supports the bond to have a Cultural Arts Center that will be a cornerstone for downtown revitalization.
Multiple studies have clearly shown the economic benefits of similar efforts, and greatly enhanced artistic and cultural
opportunities will be available to residents and visitors of all ages. The vision to have a Cultural Arts Center rather than only
a restored theater additionally opens the way for local talent to be showcased and promoted.
The Chamber issued a formal resolution in support of the both bonds, and that resolution is posted on the Chamber's website at
http://chamberinaction.com. The calculated approximate tax increase for the average home owner will be 48 cents a day for the
two bonds together. We feel strongly that the community will see significant tangible and intangible benefits from the
completion of these two important initiatives.
The Chamber encourages Homestead citizens to vote "yes" to support the city's issuing voter - approved bond funds to build
and develop these projects.
