Is Modern Technology Good or

Bad?

Introduction
Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life it is
perhaps the greatest of God's gifts. It is the mother of
civilizations, of arts and of sciences. -Freeman Dyson
Technology has positive and negative effects on people.
But in my opinion, technology is bad for people in every
way. It has spoiled our generation and it is still making it
worse for people. But to know more about technology, we
have to look into to the history of it and where it began .

History Of Technology
Many of the items you use today are a result of technology. Your cell phone,
microwave oven, washing machine, and plastic cup are all the result of scientific
discoveries combined with engineering that have allow people to invent products that
have improved the way people live. Technological advances have improved our health,
the food we eat, the clothes we wear, how we travel, and how we communicate with one
another. There are a few drawbacks to some aspects of technology (such as
pollution) but overall technology has greatly improved many aspects of living for most
people.
How did technology get started? Inventions and tool making have been around
for as long as mankind have walked the earth. But modern technology began once
scientific thought (philosophy), astronomy, and mathematics began to blend together
sometime after the 15th century. The first inventor who combined engineering with
science was Archimedes of Syracuse. He is credited with inventing the
Archimedean screw for raising water, which is still used in Egypt. He is also credited
with inventing the cross-staff for use in astronomy, and the odometer which measures
how far someone has traveled.

Pros of Technology- 3 Paragraphs

One pro of technology today is saving money. Technology limits the need for
people to be in the same physical location, for example when companies hold a
teleconference with several employees located in different branches or when they
allow employees to telecommute from home. In some cases, this can save companies
money because they do not have to pay travel expenses. When employees use
technology for telecommuting, they can work in the comfort of their home instead of
traveling to a workplace.
Another pro of technology is that it saves life. Technology saves and preserves
lives. Without technology, we would not have x-rays or cat scans, open heart surgery
or even anesthesia. No antibiotics, insulin or allergy medicines, which help us to live
longer, and healthier lives. When an emergency occurs, it is technology in the form of
the mobile phone, emergency vehicle, and high tech treatment options in the trauma
center that can mean the difference between life and death for the victim.
Another pro of technology is that it enhances our everyday living. Technology gives
us better food, cleaner water, and enhanced ways to communicate, learn and access
entertainment. For example, we have cleaned filtered water because of the machines
and filters that people use in factories to clean the water. Also, we dont have to send
letters to people far away from us just to tell them something. We have cell phones
and texting that can help us communicate around the world.

Cons of Technology- 3 paragraphs

One con of technology is that it makes us weaker. Some see our

dependence on technology as a weakness. We drive when we should walk.
We ask the computer instead of working the problem out ourselves. We use
spell checkers and calculators rather than learning to spell properly and add
accurately. Should a day come when these technologies were not available,
we would be stymied and helpless.
A second con of technology is modifying our food supply. Even our
improved food requires a constant flow of technology to be maintained.
Most of our food is produced from plants and animals that cant breed true
themselves, but require special breeding programs, like factory farming, to
keep our food supply viable.
A third con of technology is that is makes us more lonely. While in one
sense technology has enhanced communications though social networking,
text messages, email, the Internet and cell phones, in many ways we are more
isolated than ever before. People communicate face to face and voice to
voice much less now that electronic options are available. Many would rather
email or text their coworker in the next cubicle than call them up or talk them
in person.

Conclusion

Through the years, we've watched technology grow like a child budding into
adulthood: It starts out mostly crying and pooping, then crawling, gradually
learning to walk, and finally able to run at a speed we all wish we could keep
up with.
We've seen technology fail, and we've seen it succeed. We've poked fun at
it when it doesn't make sense, and we've praised it when it's absolutely
brilliant. We've yelled at it when it runs out of power, and we've fixed or
replaced it when it gets run down.
My opinion did not change about how I feel about technology. I still think
technology is bad for every person. Even though there are a lot of pros of
technology, I think there are more cons.
This means that the future of technology will increase, since so many people
accept it as being useful and good, and there will be more electronic devices
then you ever imagined.
People will start getting more lazy to do anything and this is why technology
is bad in many ways. Technology helps our world to develop and make our
everyday life easier. The more we use it, the more we have a chance to
improve it.
