On November 19, 2014, Ward 20 Councillor-Elect Joe Cressy and Ward 19 Councillor Mike Layton sent the following letter to sitting TDSB trustees; Donna Quan, Director of Education; and Carla Kisko, Associate Director of Education:
Donna Quan, Director of Education Carla Kisko, Associate Director of Education Toronto District School Board 5050 Yonge Street Toronto, ON M2N 5N8 Dear Ms. Quan and Ms. Kisko: Re: The Central Technical School Field Thank you for taking the time to meet with our offices on November 17, 2014 to discuss the possible options for moving forward with the revitalization of the field at Central Technical School. As expressed in our meeting, we want to work with the TDSB to find the best possible solution for the students of Central Tech. They deserve a professional-quality field. We believe that by working together, we can provide that field in a way that serves the needs of all community members, which includes our students. As this issue moves through the lengthy OMB process, the costs are accumulating quickly for all parties, and the students of Central Tech face the very real possibility of having no playing field until 2016. This is not in the best interests of the TDSB, the community, or most importantly, the students of Central Tech. We believe an agreement can be reached sooner by working together. As the Councillor for Ward 19, and the Councillor-Elect for Ward 20, with the full support of current Ward 20 Councillor Ceta Ramkhalawansingh, we want to revisit this issue alongside the newly-elected TDSB Trustees to find a solution that gets Central Tech students back on their field faster, and best serves the entire community. If a new solution can be found that suits the needs of all community members, we are prepared to explore finding additional resources to make the field revitalization happen in a timely matter. The precedent exists for municipal investment in school green spaces, and we believe there is an opportunity at Central Tech. We believe the City and the TDSB should be partners in protecting and enhancing our publicly owned and managed spaces. With a new Council, new Mayor, and new Board of Trustees, we have a chance to find new solutions. Lets take this opportunity to find a real solution for the entire community. Sincerely,
Joe Cressy Councillor-Elect Ward 20, Trinity-Spadina
Mike Layton City Councillor Ward 19, Trinity-Spadina
