Legalization of marijuana

Nowadays there is a lot of problems in society that affect us no matter your age, race or
sex. One of the main problems are harmful substances like drugs, is any solid, liquid or
gaseous material that can affect a humans health. This time we will be talking about the
marijuana and why it shouldnt be legalized in Mexico
To begin with, marijuana according to Benowitz, consists of the leaves and flowering
parts of the plant Cannabis sativa. It usually is smoked in cigarettes (joints or reefers)
or pipes or added to food (usually cookies, brownies, or tea)
There is a series of symptomatology that can be caused thanks to the THC jeopardizing
the consumers health regarding the toxicity of the consumption the effects may be such
as: a stimulant, sedative, or hallucinogenic actions, depending on the dose and time
after consumption. Also a catecholamine release, which, results in a tachycardia and
inhibition of sympathetic reflexes, which results in orthostatic hypotension may appear
The THC (active substance of the cannabis) acts centrally in regions of the brain like the
amygdala, and the nucleus accumbens. According the Institute of Mexican Youth the
average age in which Mexicans start consuming drugs is 16 and studies have shown
that even young nondependent marijuana users present morphometric (shape and
voxel based) abnormalities suggesting that marijuana might be involved in disruption of
the neural organization.
In an official statement the Pope Francis said that A reduction in the spread and
influence of drug addiction will not be achieved by a liberalization of drug use, rather, it
is necessary to confront the problems underlying the use of these drugs, by promoting
greater justice, educating young people in the values that build up life in society,
accompanying those in difficulty and giving them hope for the future."

On one hand, the marijuana affect your organism psychologically and physiologically as
well. If someone consume this drug it would be directly affected on the brain, for
example the subcortical structural alterations have been reported in thalami of

schizophrenic patients, obsessive compulsive disorders, Parkinsons disease and

Tourettes syndrome. This alterations are more sensitive to the effects of cannabis than
volume alteration

and can cause depression, anxiety, become a moody person,

difficulties for learning and memorizing things and psychosis as schizophrenia.

On the other hand we agree that it might be good for the economy of our country
because if its legalized the drug is going to generate taxes and it could create proper
jobs (buyers and sellers) and they wouldnt be treated or seen as criminals
All these been said it is necessary to investigate a lot more in the field of marijuana and
its effects before it is legalized because we are not certain of the positive or malign
effects that it could have in humans, but we are certain of the effects that marijuana can
have for the people consuming this harmful substances that must times we wont be
able to use in a controlled way.
