This multi-day lesson will allow students to practice their speaking
skills with the rest of the class. With the help of the teacher, the
students will fill out an All About Me sheet that ask them for their
favorite color, book, foods, places to go, and things to do. Then, the
students will each present to the class their All About Me sheet. All
students will have the opportunity to practice their speaking skills by
telling the class about themselves and by asking questions or making
a comment while practicing their presentation.
Materials:
Pencils
All About Me worksheets
Big laminated poster of All About Me
Poster with sentence starters
Popsicle sticks with students names

Instruction/Engagement:
Classrooms are composed of many students. We are all different
because we each like different things. To get to know each other, we
will do an All About Me activity. This will allow our peers to have
the opportunity to learn more about us during the next few days.
Directed Lesson:
Show the class a big poster of All About Me. Tell the students that
they will each fill out their own sheet. The sheet consists of the
students writing down what their favorite color, book, foods, things
to do, and places to go are. Tell the students not to worry about
spelling because the assistants and teacher will be walking around
helping the students. After all students have completed their All
About Me worksheet, they will practice their presentations with a
buddy. Then, whole-class presentations will begin. When a childs
name is pulled out, the teacher will quickly write down the students
responses on the laminated chart for the whole class to see.
Presenting will allow students to practice their speaking skills using
complete sentences.

Guided Practice:
The students will fill out their All About Me sheets with the help of
the teacher and assistants. Then, students will pick a buddy to
practice their presentation. When the presenter is finished, the
listener must ask a question or comment on the presentation. After,
the roles will be reversed so that the other partner will have the
opportunity to practice his/her presentation and the other child can
ask a question or comment on the presentation. The assistants and
the teacher will be walking around helping students improve their
presentation.
Independent Practice:
Students will have the opportunity to practice their presentation with
a buddy. Also, they will be able to practice their speaking skills
during recess, lunch, and at home. Remind students that speaking
clearly is important in order to communicate well with others.

Assessment:
Assessment will be ongoing. The students will have many
opportunities to practice their speaking skills in class. Student
progress will be recorded by the teacher.
Differentiation:
English second language learners will receive additional help from
the teacher, aids, or English speaking peers. If student is unable to
present in English, the child can present in their native language.
Presenting in their first language will allow the student(s) to practice
speaking clearly, so that others are able to understand them
regardless of the language being spoken. Teachers will have to
research the childs responses in order to be able to translate to the
rest of the class.

Accommodations for Culturally Diverse Learners:

Find out about the favorite foods, things to do, and places to go of
various cultures.
Extensions:
Read books about different cultures to the class.
