I handed out a survey to sixty students on school campus. I clearly explained the major
differences between extroverts and introverts and all they had to do was mark what they
believed and/or knew which category they fell into. 39 students out of the 60 who were
surveyed said they were introverts rather than they were extroverts, and they even stated that
sometimes it is not something that they are proud of I personally deemed this interesting and
extroverts on the other hand were willing to chat. What is it that makes us introverted or
extroverted?
Introverts vs. Extroverts
What is an introvert and an extrovert? Well, I am here to tell you what the major differences
are between the two. Nine times out of a ten, you will hear from someone who says introverts
are demure, but being shy should not be confused with introverts because they are two entirely
different things. Going in depth, introverts are individuals who focus their time and effort on
the reflections of their minds by preference than to the outside world. They are deeply in touch
with their emotions and inner workings. For it to be simply put, an introvert is someone who is
often and rather quickly drained from being around other people, and for them to recharge,

Page 2
they get away by spending time alone with themselves to reflect. Introverts have their perks
that are rather valuable qualities such as being more insightful than those who are extroverts.
Introverts are very creative when they are thrown into a fantasy world because it is where their
creative side comes out to play. Extroverts are measured in their responses as well as they are
highly analytical - they can easily find their way through a problem and they will focus on the
core of the matter.
Introverts are observant and sensitive to the world around them. Because of this, they prefer to
be alone and to do things alone and do not crave to be in the spotlight. Introverts are less
outspoken than extroverts and when there is a lot of social interaction and engagements, it
overwhelms them. The disadvantages of being an introvert is that society expects introverts to
act correspondingly to extroverts. With all this access to new modern technology, it may be
difficult to avoid becoming sheltered in and antisocial. Introverts will tell themselves lies to
avoid criticism, and as Helgoe states, Their biggest challenge is not to feel like outsiders in their
own culture (54). There is no amount of time in the day that is enough for them to be alone.
Some famous introverts are: Charles Darwin, Dr. Seuss, Mahatma Gandhi, J.K. Rowling,
Abraham Lincoln, Michael Jackson, and Albert Einstein.
An extrovert is someone who is very outgoing and welcomes the spotlight. They get bored
when they are alone. They crave social situations and will actually seek them out because they
enjoy being around people. They are really good at making new friends and going up to
someone to say hello. An extroverts way to get through life is to be assertive. They think well
when they are talking and will be less likely to think before they speak. Amy Hiscock, a Canadian
nurse stated, It can be challenging to differentiate between anxiety and depression and

Page 3
natural temperament when patients happen to be introverts (34). It is hard to live in an
extraverted society. It is not that introverts are depressed, they are just quietly complacent
individuals. The major difference between being an introvert and depression is that introverts
are very complacent. Introverts have hard seasons in their life like everybody else, but they
dont stay stuck within their problems. This does not mean that there arent any depressed
introverts, there surely are, but the definitions should be separated.
Extroverts are more involved and attentive to the outside world. They enjoy taking risks and
jumping into all sorts of experiences. And as the American society would have it, anyone whose
behavior is different than an extroverts behavior is judged. Fundamentally, extroverts are the
exact opposites of introverts. They are energized by being around other individuals. They think
out loud, they talk more than they listen, they are enthusiastic, and they are more forthcoming
than an introvert would be. The disadvantages to being an extrovert is that many people will
find them to be very bothersome and thoughtless. Thoughtless because they can brush off a
painful experience like it was nothing and can easily dispose of a friend.
Extroverts have very big egos and are generally prideful. They may thrive in the physical world,
but they can cause so much damage with their self-importance. Generally, introverts and
extroverts are two sides of a coin - their brains are different. Thomas a writer for
Discovermagazine ties in other peoples studies into his articles states, Its important to keep
in mind that our brain structures vary from person to person along all sorts of axes that inform
our personalities - not just introversion and extroversion. (Thomas) The valuable qualities that
extroverts hold is one of many. One is their great confidence to approach life - going out of the
comfort zone and putting themselves out there. Public speaking because it is a skill everyone

Page 4
really needs whether it be for school or work; Introverts are good public speakers because they
are outspoken people and not shy
As introverted as I am, I may enjoy being alone, but it does not mean that I do not get lonely, I
do, but it is comforting to be alone. However, there are days where I crave social interaction
and want to hang out with a group of friends introverts like social interaction also. But after a
little while, I feel so drained and it just makes me appear distant and cold. I have been looked
down upon for being an introvert by many and to be honest, I push myself to talk to people
these days. I can be the other version of myself if I wanted to the extroverted side of myself. I
always feel like Im boring extroverts because I listen more than I speak and it takes me a long
time to get my thoughts together to even respond when it comes to certain things. I feel
differently around different kinds of extroverts, some more calm than others meaning they
are not demanding of a conversation, they are patient enough to chat with me. But I do find a
lot of them to be obnoxious and pretentious.

Summary In a workplace, there are vast amounts of extroverts and introverts. They may be
different, but it is actually a good thing because the environment balances itself out. They
both learn from each other. The source is minimally reliable because some of the information
had already been incorporated.
