The Plotter:
Book Corner Club Meeting Date:
Title of Reader:
You are The Plotter. Your job is to discuss the chronology of the events in the story. Read and complete
section 1 of Writing an Essay an introduction to key concepts and literary terms on the academic
writing section of this site before you start, to help you express yourself more effectively during the
meeting. You have two jobs:
1 While you are reading, write down the events that you consider are key to the story, i.e. the events
that you personally think are the most important. Plot them on the line below in the correct
chronological order. Then decide which event marks the moment of maximum dramatic tension in
the story (The Climax). At the meeting, find out if your Club members agree with your choice of
events.
2 Look at section 5 of Writing an Essay and think about the style of the story you are reading. Choose
three adjectives to describe the plot and/or the style e.g. fast, realistic, exciting, descriptive etc. Note
these down and, at the meeting, find out if your Club members agree with you.

Comments:
3 Look at the illustrations in the Reader and be prepared to explain what is happening in at least five
of them. Do you feel that the illustrations show the most important events in the story? If not, then
which aspects of the story do you feel should have been illustrated instead?
