Evaluation of sources
Book
Rogers, C. (1995). On becoming a person: A
therapist's view of psychotherapy (p. 420). Houghton
Mifflin Harcourt.
The primary audience for this source is
psychology students, therapist, or those seeking
further information on the field of psychotherapy. The
information from this title is especially for the abovementioned readers, the book contains valuable
information on psychotherapy. Yes this source fits my
needs as a researcher; it gives a good base to start
from when discussing this field.
This content applies to my research because it
gives the introduction to the field of psychotherapy
and my research is on a sub flied within the realm of
psychotherapy.
I do not detect any bias from this work
because it has already been specified to discuss
psychotherapy and the reader is most likely seeking
information on humanistic psychotherapy, Carl
Rogers was the founder of the movement so the
reader should be aware of the material they are
researching.

The references listed in the book display the

high level of credibility the writer has. The sources are
credible and applicable to the book. Also the
references are relevant to the material.
The book was originally written in 1995 and
although it is not within five years a revised copy was
released in 2012. Seeing as Rogers was the founder
of this movement the information is very important
and valuable because it gave a basis to begin using
the techniques.
Yes, this author has the credentials to write
this book. Dr. Rogers was a prominent psychologist
and his movement of humanistic psychotherapy is
now widely practiced.
The work Dr. Rogers did in this novel was
ground breaking in the field of psychotherapy. If it
were not for his innovative thoughts and ideas based
off of Maslow original model, the field of humanistic
psychotherapy would not be as prominent or even
exist.
The work plays a vital role in the field of
psychotherapy. Dr. Rogers was a pioneer in the
psychotherapy space. Humanistic psychotherapy is
around today due to the extensive research Rogers
did in cohesion with Maslows original preliminary
work on the field.

I think this book will be suitable for further

research. Although it is very subject specific, the
ability to define and show practical use leads me to
believe it can be used by more to come.
I would rate this source a 5 because without
the work of Carl Rogers and specifically this piece of
literature psychologist could potentially not have the
field of humanistic psychotherapy.

nt/entry/ehsmosbymed/existential_therapy/0
The primary audience for this article is the student or
therapist looking to further progress their research on
the method of existential therapy. The information
matches the exception of the researcher because of
the references clear definition and purpose which is to
give a beginning point for research on this topic.
This article gave me a base understanding on
existential therapy and allowed me to have a grasp of
the concept before moving forward in my research.
No this article does not contain any bias. It is a factual

definition of existential therapy and comes from

Mosby's dictionary of medicine, Nursing & Health
Professions.
The work cited tells the reader that this information
comes from a reliable medical source, used within the
medical field. Also the date of the article is 2012,
which is within a five year time frame demonstrating
the relatively of the information.
Yes the source is up to date. The source was
published in 2012 making it resent and credible do to
the origin of the information.
Yes the author has authority to provide this
information. The Mosbys dictionary is widely used in
the medical field and has continuously published new
volumes of their dictionary to match any new or
emerging health concerns.
The role of this article is to provide of base for any
scholar looking to further their research in the field of
psychotherapy, specifically humanistic therapy.
I dont think this specific article has great impact,
however I do think it provides a starting point for
research. Additionally I do not feel this specific article
will have a big impact on the field.
I would rate this source a 2, do to the lack of further
information it provides on the subject. Although I do

feel it provides readers with a solid foundation for their

research.
Gestalt therapy. (2004). In W. Edward Craighead and
Charles B. Nemeroff (Eds.), The concise Corsini

Retrieved from
http://search.credoreference.com.lib.ottawa.edu/conte
nt/entry/wileypsych/gestalt_therapy/0
The primary audience in this article is scholars and
therapist seeking information on a particular method
within humanistic psychotherapy. The article gives a
full description, origin, and techniques used in Gestalt
therapy. Yes this source fit my needs in my research
on the topic.
The source applies to my research project because
the method mentioned; Gestalt therapy is one of the
three used within humanistic psychotherapy. The
information provided gave me valuable information to
use in my research, providing me with factual and
credible information.
I do not sense a bias in this article. The article is
factual information gathered from various sources and
is used in the Encyclopedia of Psychology. The
credibility of the Encyclopedia is a well known, and
used widely in the search of information.
The references listed are from credible doctors and

other doctoral work from members within the

psychology space. Additionally the sources show the
reader the wide range of specialist whom contributed
to the articles information and all are reliable sources.
The source is not update in the standards of the
assignment. However the article was published in
2004 dating back ten years, which may or may not be
adequate depending on the research objective.
Although it if out dated the information is accurate
with current information regarding Gestalt therapy.
Yes the publisher has the credibility to have this
article posted. All of the references listed are credible
figures in psychology and the encyclopedia is a
reliable source due to its yearly revisions.
The article mist likely does not play a vital role on the
field. However it does have some significance for
individuals seeking information on Gestalt therapy.
Although the article contains factual information, it
should be used to add a few points to ones research.
The article does not have any connection to a study
or research work, but it provides good factual
foundational material for ones research.
I do not think this article will have extensive
implications for further research. The source of the
information is a site giving exerts from larger bodies f
work, giving more of a synopsis on the material or
subject.

I give this source a 4, because it is beneficial to some

readers. The down fall of the article is that is does not
has a correlating experiment or study that was
conducted. It does however give the reader a detailed
introduction into the method of therapy.
Websites
Different approaches to psychotherapy. (n.d.).
Retrieved September 20, 2014, from
http://www.apa.org/topics/therapy/psychotherapyapproaches.aspx
This source is geared towards those interested in
psychology. The specific page I used for my research
is more suited for those searching information on
psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is defined in the
article as well as the other methods within the field of
psychotherapy. Yes this source fit my needs as a
researcher because it gave me not only the definition
of psychotherapy but introduced me to the numerous
other subfields.
The content covered on this page relates to my topic
because it defines both psychotherapy and
humanistic psychotherapy. Additionally the source
also gives descriptions and definitions of the methods
used in humanistic therapy.
I did not catch any bias form this source. A
main factor in the contribution to being unbiased is the

factual basis of this source. In order to be biased the

source most be opinion based however no opinion is
given here, solely factual information.
The source does not show any references. At the
bottom of the page it states an exert form the
encyclopedia of psychology. although the lack of
references would make this site not credible, the .org
domain tells the reader that the site most likely is
credible. Additionally, the APA (American
Psychological Association) is a credible psychology
source, with over 130,000 psychologist registered,
many educated minds are tied to the site.
The source has no date listed other then the
websites revised date of 2014. In turn, the site is up to
date however this particular article may not. With no
date present it is slightly difficult to agree that it is
credible, but with the origin being the encyclopedia we
can assume it is credible.
No author is listed, however I fell that the
website itself is credible. Although we cannot assume
it is credible, what pushed me to advocate for its
credibility is the origin of the information and the site it
is posted on.
I do not think this source plays or would play a
vital role in the areas of research. Even though it may
not play a vital role, I feel it gives an over view of the
different approaches to psychotherapy. As for future

implications I do not believe it will be ground breaking

or make a contribution the field, other then giving an
introduction to each method.
I give this site a 3 out of 5. I give it the score
because of the lack of references and also for lacking
a date on the article. Additionally, I think the site has
done a good job at giving a definition and an example
of each method.

Either psychologist or scholars writing about
the field of psychology should use the source listed.
The information would apply to those looking for the
symptoms and treatments of mental disorders. The
information pertains to the audience because of the
wide range of disorders listed, this allows for limitless
knowledge to be gained regarding mental
disorders. This site fit my needs as a scholar by
providing me with some treatment options being used
to treat specific disorders.
The content applies to my research by giving
the treatment options being using to treat specific
mental disorders. Each method with in humanistic
psychotherapy is used to treat different disorders the

site further showed which of the three are being used,

if at all in the treatment options.
I do not detect any bias, the source is mainly
factual knowledge based on scientific and
psychological research on the best ways of treating
disorders.
The treatment listings come from the latest
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,
Fifth Edition (DSM-5). This is the manual used across
psychology field to diagnosis client. The source is
highly credible because of the origin of the summary.
Yes the source is up to date. The source is
revised when each DSM comes out. Subsequently,
this source was taken from DSM -5 2013, which is
within a five year time span, falling perfectly into the
five year timeline of relativity.
The author is a doctor within the field of
psychology therefore leading me to conclude the
source is credible.
Without the DSM the guidelines for diagnosis
of patient would be none existent. Therefore I think
this source is very impactful in the field of psychology.
The DSM is published each year, further portraying its
importance to the field of psychology. Additionally,
this source could have an impact on the future of
psychology because as it changes so do the

treatments and symptoms of clients, which could lead

to a disorder being abolished or a new disorder to
come onto the scene.
I give this source a 4, although it was
beneficial it did not come directly from the DSM.
Additionally I enjoyed the simplicity of navigation
through the site as well as the information provided by
the site.
Articulate their information needs and establish a
sense of intentionality before embarking on research
projects.

Understand the features and organizational patterns

of various information categories and types.
Academic Databases
The list of academic databases is extensive; so much
that subject specific databases are available. The two
databases chosen for comparison are EBSCO
Discovery and Google Scholar. Both databases are
very useful for all academics, with an abundance of
journals, articles, and full text availability. Although
both are resourceful there are a few distinctions.
EBSCO Host and Google scholar both are
great resources, although they navigate completely
different. Both of these sites have advanced search
capabilities, although Google does not have the
advanced search information appear automatically as
EBSCO provides. Additionally, Boolean language can
be used in both sites; EBSCO has the terms on its
main search page. Equally important both are able to
retrieve a wide range of text form journals to
published literature.
Although both databases are easily
assessable, and provide multiple resources there are
a few things that both should improve on. Google
Scholar is easily navigable, ultimately providing the
researchers with a wide variety of information it does

not however allow access to all of the results which

maybe frustrating to those unaware of the multiple
databases available. One feature Google Scholar
provided was its citation ability for every source, this
could be very beneficial for academics providing them
with adequate APA, MLA, or Chicago formats. With
Googles capabilities now academics can also save
their searches, citation, and subject searchs all under
the users Google account, if they user does not have
one Google makes the set up quick and easy.
In conclusion, both of the databases chosen
provide academics the ability to retrieve numerous
results pertaining to their topic. Each databases
operates smoothly, making searching easier for all
users. Both do need some changes with accessibility,
EBSCO Host provides more adequate readable
material, were as Google Scholar provides ampule
results, with little to no access. I would recommend
both sites to researchers, I would caution though that
although Google is a big name with a solid reputation
their Scholar application needs some work,
accessibility should be their main focus, not only to
offer the sources but also to make them readable so
that viewers can use all of the results to their full
capacity.

On http://www.psychotherapy.net many categories

articles related to the topic. The material assists
readers in their practice or valid research purposes.

The second database I searched in

site offers additional blog/ podcast links, Q & A

because of the endless possibilities available right at

the information. Also both can be used for everyday
inquiry, providing readers with current news and
information in psychology field.
