Learning Plan
W. The students will be told that they will be expressing themselves through the different art
forms. The objectives will be told to the students and written on the board
H. The teacher will ask the students what it means to be an artist. The teacher will ask the
students to brainstorm some ways that they can express their recent knowledge about fire
safety through different means of art expression.
E. Students will become familiar with the different forms of the fine arts: art, music, and
dance. The teacher will show the students the different materials that can be used, for
example markers, crayons, paint, etc. can be used to create artwork; xylophones, maracas,
drums, and bells can be used to make music; and body movements combined with music
creates dance. The teacher will tell the students that there is not a right or wrong way to
create fine art and it is created however the artist wants.
R. Students will have the opportunity to practice the fine arts through learning centers. In
the art center, students will create a picture about fire safety. Students can uses any materials
they wish to (crayons/markers/colored pencils/paint) and the picture can be about anything
they want to express about fire safety. In the music center, students will write a song about
fire safety. They can choose any instrument available in the classroom for their song
(xylophone/maracas/drums/bells). In the dance center, students will create a dance to the
song "Fire Safety Song for Kids (Novus Security)". They can choose to incorporate any
dance moves they wish. In all three of the centers, students will have the opportunity to work
independently or with a partner
FINE ARTS
E. Each of the end products in the centers will be used as an assessment and will be
evaluated based on the student's use of materials and willingness to participate. Students will
present their songs and dances to the class.
T. This lesson provides opportunities for all different types of learners to be successful.
However, to further accommodate this lesson, students that are on the Autism Spectrum will
have their directions chunked. They will be given instructions for each lesson when they get
there, piece by piece. Similarly, these students will be given the option to remain at one
station for the entire lesson to avoid overstimulation.
Students with hearing impairments will be given headphones at the music and dance
stations, so they can turn the sound up to the decibel they need in order to hear. The teacher
will also wear an FM system and microphone.
O. Students will be very engaged in this lesson since the activities are hands on and require
the student's creativity. Materials used in this lesson include: makers/crayons/colored
pencils/paint, xylophone/maracas/drums/bells, and the "Fire Safety Song for Kids (Novus
Security)" song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdyFFhPmJTc.
