Behavioral Objective(s):
The children will state what the five food groups are. The children will then choose
where each food would go on the plate. Then, at the end of the lesson, the child
would select which train car would correspond with each piece of food within the
five food groups
Materials/Necessary Preparation:
- Toy train with the different food groups on each side of the train cars.
- Something to play the song
- Healthy eating song (Food train song)
- Plates that have the food groups all ready labeled on them, plastic food
- Draw out a plate on the whiteboard, have the food magnets for the board

-Food train song will not play I will make sure we have a backup player for the music

-If a child is misbehaving and not wanting to work with the group. I would have the
child then try the activity on their own

First, I would draw the plate on the board, getting the toy train, and music ready,
while the children are putting up their toys. Then I would gather all the children at
the table. Then I would start passing out the plates and plastic food pieces. While
gathering the children, I would cue the food train song. Then we would begin the
lesson, stating what the five food groups are, and showing each piece of food that
would go along with each food group. We would then put the appropriate piece of
food with the learned food group. We would state why we would need this food
group. At the end, we would start having the children select the right piece of food
with the right food group on the train, while the song was playing.
Explain how this activity is DAP:
This is DAP for kindergarteners because at this age they understand what the five
food groups are, what food is, what is healthy, and what is not.

Closure/Transitions:
-I will play the train song again as the children will come up to the train in the front
of the class to empty their plates into the correct food groups on the train. Then we
will start to wash our hands to get ready for lunch.

Assessment:
I asked each child to put the food into the correct food group on the train cars. By
doing this, all 10 students understood where and what food groups to put them in.
