At the end of this lesson, the students will be able to describe the function of the flower
and how a flower grows into a fruit.
At the end of this lesson students will be able to determine that the function of the fruit is
to protect the seeds and help in seed dispersal.
Standards:
L.OL.03.31 Describe the function of the following plant parts: ower, stem, root, and
leaf.
Materials:
Paper Plates
1 Sharp Knife
12 Apples
Pencil
Instruction:
Anticipatory Set
o Go over expectations for whole group work.
o Remind students that we are going to be comparing the parts that we saw in the
flower to the parts that we are going to investigate with the apple and looking for
similarities and differences.
Procedure
1. Pass out the Apple Trees in Season card set to every group. Explain to them that
they need to work together to figure out the correct order that the cards go in.
a. Study the pictures and brainstorm your ideas with your group.
