LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will:
1. Move their bodies in a variety of ways
2. Understand without a teacher model the different ways to move
ASSESSMENTS
Observations:
Students will demonstrate different ways to move, while being aware of what
their bodies are doing.
Key Questions:
Why do we move in different ways? Why dont we just run, or jump, or skip
everywhere?

Move the Way I Say Tag

Have students sitting in a tight group for explanation. 3-4 students

will be it. Students can only move around the gym avoiding being
tagged in ways that I explain.
1. Running- Students can run, but must stay on lines. Works on
students turning skills. (2min)
2. Jumping- Students can only jump around gym- one foot or
two foot jumping. (2min)
3. Skipping- Students can only skip around the gym (2min)
When I yell freeze, students must freeze and wait for instructions.
Can now add in body levels, as well as movement patterns.
Pick a few students to be it and give them pinnies to wear

Learning Activity #2

Change whos it constantly so many students get a chance.

Stretching
Lead students through a variety of stretches, focusing on balance. Lead
students though breathing exercises to get them calm from running
around.

for next instructions.

Learning Activity #3

Identify how to properly stretch.

Numbers Run (from last class)

Students move around gym to music, showing the movement ways we
have been learning. When the music stops, I will yell out a number
between 2 and 5. Students are required to quickly find a group with that
amount of students. Once in the group, those students must all freeze
with the same body parts touching the floor as learned in first activity.
This activity will force students to think quickly, and decide as a group
quickly which body parts to touch the floor (SYNERGIZE). Once the
music begins again, students move their own individual ways again.

Transition: Have students join in a tight group for

next activity

Learning Activity #4

Make sure that students are aware that number may not always work
out. If a student finds themselves unable to find a group with the
correct numbers, just quickly join the closet group to them.

Move the Way I Say Elimination Style

Inform students that we will now be playing a style of mirror mirror,
except I will not be doing the actions, I will only be calling them out.
Students are required to move around the gym doing the movement
patterns I specify. I will be looming for students who are not doing the
correct patterns. If I catch them not doing so, they will be required to sit
and count backwards from 10 to 1 before they can rejoin the game.
Challenge students to never get caught doing the wrong patterns. If the
students perform this task well, we can end the class with the rocket
ship activity.
Be sure to use:
Body Movement- Skipping, running, striding, walking, hopping, shuffling
Body Levels- High, normal, and low
Pathways- Circle, straight, zig zags, curved

Learning Activity #5

10min

If done properly, inform students we can end with the rocket ship
activity.
A1-8, A1-9, C1-5, D1-7

Create your own Pathway

Tell students to imagine that they are a rocket ship. This rocket ship will
be blasting off, orbiting earth, and moving around the galaxy. With a

5min

partner, students will recreate the movement that a rocket ship may do.
Demonstrate how I would blast off (fast), than slow down and orbit
earth (circles), than speed up, do zig zags.etc
Students may be responsible to share their rocket ship story with the
rest of the class. Music can play during this.
