PROCEDURE
Introduction
Hook/Attention Grabber: Ask students to discuss the field trip they took the previous day and all the places they went.
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: Are the students able to connect that community helpers have specific work places?
Body
Learning Activity #1: People At Work
Ask students to name all 4 Community Helpers on slide 2.
Ask students if they know where each Community Helper works, ask for volunteers to come and touch the
image of the helpers to see if their answer is correct.
Continue this process on slide 3.
Learning Activity #2: Making Our Own Community
Explain to students that the craft we are doing involves making our own community. We will be cutting out
Community Helper figures to glue on popsicle sticks and Community Helper Workplaces to glue on the
small cardboard boxes. Once all of the students have completed the craft, they can take their pieces to the
carpet and we will name our community and allow students to create their community and live within it.
Closure
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: After naming the students community, explain that every community is unique
and special in its own way because of the people, places and things that are found within it.
