English Language Arts 9 Short Story Unit INTRODUCTION The goal of the unit is to spice up your writing beyond the stories you may have written in the past. You will have the opportunity to develop your own story from start to finish, create effective and believable characters, and learn to use different forms of figurative language. Of course, telling a story is only one way of communicating ideas to others. This unit will also allow you to explore different mediums of communication in various ways, through the eyes of your main character. PART A: RESEARCH Complete the following background research activities that will explore who your protagonist is:

PART B: WRITING YOUR SHORT STORY
This short story will combine all of the activities you have completed so far into a masterpiece of power and justice! Your short story must be 1000-1500 words. PART C: NEWS ARTICLE You are a journalist in the city of _____(where your hero is from)___. You have been chosen to have an exclusive interview with your hero. If you complete this interview successfully, you will gain worldly fame and fortune, so it is in your best interest to get the real scoop. You must choose the questions to ask your herowill you report on their personal life, their morals, their relationships? Or will you be the one who reveals their secret identity to the world? This article should reflect the quality of your work in PART A and PART B, and allow you to explore your protagonist even further.
