On November 21, 2014, I encountered the open position for an Instrumentation Superintendent
located in Cerro Verde, Peru. I recently graduated from the University of Utah, and finished an
internship with Rio Tinto copper open pit mine. My fresh mind and experience will be a benefit
to Cerro Verde.
During my internship at Rio Tinto Kennecott, I had the opportunity to work with the Mechanical
Engineers to improve the grinding and concentration time by 3%. By reprograming the process
we took off a few seconds in the extraction, grinding, and concentration times. This lowered the
cost from $400,000 a minute to $350,000. I feel that the process and steps to improve the total
cost of operation can be a benefit to your company. My experience in management is also an
important part of my benefit to you. I was able to influence my workers by encouragement and
by example. We rose from the 11th ranked store in the region, to the number 1 store in sales for 3
months.
During my studies, I had the opportunity to be Project Manager for our senior project. We
focused on the metallurgical process and the ability to account for each section of the process.
By doing so, it allowed us to eliminate unneeded waste of time. I had the opportunity to lead the
project, which involved insuring the schedule was followed, and that we were staying within our
budget. I delegated to the team different tasks, and made sure they were following the schedule
with weekly progress reports. I feel that with my experience and knowledge I can help improve
company costs while following policies, and guidelines.
