Everyone stand up and put your arms and hands up! Who can tell me where our
hands are?
-Right! They are ABOVE our head This means that they are higher than our head
Now, put your arms down beside you! Now where are our hands?
-Right! They are BELOW our head This means that they are below our head
Now look at me! I am IN FRONT OF you! This means I am ahead of you, you can see

me!
If I am in front of you, then the back of the class room is where? Right, BEHIND YOU
This
Means that you cant see it, it is the opposite of in front of
Last but not least, look at the person beside you Your partner is NEXT TO you This
means

That they are to the side of you!

Practice

Independent
Practice

where shapes are! (CFU)

You could (and probably should) have used the SMART Board for the teacher input work as well, adding
to the actual way in which you demonstrate position/s.
Do not forget during our practice to use your SHAPE names, and DESCRIPTIVE WORDS
Have students sit in front of the SMART board
Show the picture of the classroom with Circles, Squares, Triangles, Rectangles, etc.
throughout the classroom
Students will need to tell the position of the shapes according to the teacher in the center of
the classroom
Students will drag the correct vocabulary word to the correct shape position- at this point
students will need to explain why they matched each vocabulary word with each shape
(CFU)
During this time students will INDEPENDENTLY on their work sheet, there should be no talking
between any of the students
Pass out worksheets to each student
Read the directions to the class and reiterate that this is independent work
On the worksheet they must identify where the shapes are using their descriptive words
(Vocabulary Words)

Summative Assessment: 95% or above mastery
