Pre- Students will be asked
what today (October 31st) is.
What are you being for
Halloween? What are some fun
things you do for Halloween?
During I will ask the students
what character they think is
going to appear next in the
story. I will be sure to notice all
the students who are correctly
engaging in the story.
After Each student will create
a mummy, using a paper plate,
and decorate it to their liking.
They will write on the back side
what their favorite Halloween
activity to do with their friends
and family is.

The assessment date will


be used to hold students
to higher standard when
reading and understand
each story that is read.
If students are successful:
students will think more in
depth to every future book
they read.

Accommodations:
Students who finish their paper mummies early will be asked to read their classroom books assigned to their tables
quietly. I will walk around the room and make sure their sentences are good second grade sentence with correct spelling
and punctuation. For students who are slower at completely the assignment, they will get extra help from myself and will
be given the option of taking their mummy home and finishing it on their time. Students with other special
accommodations will receive extra help from me or Ms. Corley when needed.

Materials: Wheres My Mummy, paper plates, eyes, glue, crayons, and pencils.

Motivation: Do you have any plans for Halloween?


Procedures:
1. Have students move to the rug by tables
2. Introduce the book: title, author, and illustrator
3. Ask: What do you like to do with your family and friends on Halloween?
4. Read the book stopping to ask questions throughout. Have the students turn and talk. What happened in Hide
and Shriek? What games do you like to play during Halloween?
5. Call full group back after each question and listen to a few of the partners respond. Continue reading.
6. Have students return to seats by calling rows or color squares.
7. Explain the after assessment.
8. Have a student helper pass out materials. Paper plates, eyes, crayons.
9. Have students create their paper mummy and color it to their liking
10. Have students write their favorite Halloween activity with their friends and family on the back.
11. After students finish the activity, have several children share their finished pictures.

Activity Analysis:
Students will recall a past event after listening to the story, Wheres My Mummy? They will think about what their
favorite thing to do on Halloween with their family and friends. Students will create a paper plate mummy head using
eyes and decorating it to their liking. On the backside they will write strong second grade sentences on what their
favorite Halloween activity or game is. After they finish, they will be able to color their mummy more or read the books
assigned to their table.
Technology: There will be no technology used in this story.
